Gov. says no way; doesn't like the lottery Maine lawmakers say they want to expand the state lottery by adding a video version of keno and joining the multistate Mega Millions, but Gov. John Baldacci is against the idea. Members of the legislature's Legal and Veteran Affairs Committee say Maine could reap $1.5 million annually by joining more than 30 other states in Mega Millions. They said Thursday that keno an electronic hybrid of the lottery and bingo could generate $2.3 million for the

Governor Proposes Powerball for Maine
powerball will never be in maine fore the following reasons.1. the governor is shaky about it2. I'm pretty sure that New Hampshire has the power to deny a state entry into the MUSL, and Maine offering Powerball would take customers away from New Hampshire. This topic made the news a few years back. I strongly doubt it will happen when New Hampshire can stop Maine's entry into the game to avoide a decrease in sales. I was surprised when Vermont was allowed into the game.

Lottery chief tours state
While I would love to see Florida, I seriously doubt that they will join a multistate just yet. My thinking is that #12 will either be Maine or Vermont (most likely Maine). Another remote possibility would be a voyage north of the border and approach the Ontario lottery.

Lottery winner buys spectacular wilderness area
I'm sure you're right that most Americans would agree with you, but in general our grasp of science and geography is, um, not so good. Some parts of Canada are further south than some parts of Iowa, but it's not nearly as simple as how far north a place is. In a typical winter the coldest place in the lower 48 is often Old Forge, NY, which is a few hunded miles further south than northern Maine*, which is a couple of hundred miles further south than the North Dakota border with Canada. The

Support eroding for Maine Gov.'s lottery plan
A Democratic state senator from Portland is breaking ranks with Gov. John Baldacci on the governor's plan to help balance the state budget by selling future lottery revenue. But it remains to be seen if that defection is isolated or the first sign that support is crumbling within the governor's party.Sen. Ethan Strimling, one of 19 Democrats in the 35-member Senate, said Wednesday he cannot support borrowing $250 million from an investor and repaying it by selling lottery revenue. Strimling said

Maine lottery scratch tickets may get new controversial name
The Maine State Lottery may soon give a name to its scratch tickets for the first time, but the name isn't sitting well with everyone. A few weeks ago, the Maine State Lottery sent a pamphlet out to its 1,300 retailers, saying it plans to name the tickets Kwikies. I thought that's going to be real uncomfortable for my girls behind the register to have guys come in and say 'Hey, give me a Kwikie,' said David Welch, owner of Village Market in Fairfield. In slang terms, a quickie is a sh
