Expected Return
Thanks for the wonderful link lottobuddy. I've downloaded the paper. Eqn(4) is exactly the equation I use in calculating expectation values, with equ'n 3 being the form I posted on the other thread. However, my results conflict with the statement that there has never been a MB or PB drawing that gave a fair bet. I calculate that the expectation value for this drawing (217 million) is actually a fair bet with an expectation value of 1.02. I have seen at least two or three other such

MM Drawing for Tuesday 11-25-03
RJOHI understand what fja is talking about, but having studied the draws for a lot of years now, and as far as the MB number is concerned; I can pretty much tell you if the MB is going to hit above 25 or below 25. Usually I can come closer than that. This has been a real challenge, but I'm getting closer all the time it seems. There are days that it will throw me a curve though; but not many. What I don't understand about your discussion is that all draws change because of the Bell-Curve. It see

MM Drawing for Friday, 9/26/03
Chief was mad as a when I seen what I missed seeing on my spreadsheet afterwards. I was pretty sure #32 and #52 were going to be in the 5-number's that would hit. Also my spreadsheet was leaning more to #44 than #45, but after looking closer to that, I guess it could have gone either way, and it did. As far as #29 hitting as the MB, that's what I missed seeing on my sheet. After looking closer, I could see it was leaning toward #29. It was pretty clear. I totally overlooked that one. The #5

MM picks for 7/1
Cotti47:Picture an 81/2 x 11 sheet of paper with 1/4-inch squares down and accross. Left side of sheet you number from the top down, 1-52 for MM for an example or 1-53 for PB. Accross the top, left to right, put in your play dates ie: 7-1-03 only they would be in vertical position. Now, say 3 hit, you would color in the #3 square in black ink or do it on the computer. Do that for the (5) white balls. Then if #27 was the Power Ball number, color that square in with Red ink. You need to start wit

Dreams dont ever come true...
Hyper - I can write about anything really. Make it a rock song or a rap song. I dont care. When I do write I dont know if there any good like I said I cant get them to anyone to find out. My friend says there good but that's just my friend. He could be just saying that. They are mostly poems, but that's how people get songs is from poems. Old hank - I use my friends computer.I have tried to study for the test and the sections that I think that I need work on with an actual teacher. The lo

MADDOG'S Powerball Challenges (Discussion)
I learned from my earliest postings at LP that a lot of people here mistrust Random Number Generators. Therefore, I avoided as much as possible using them while trying to make a point. I had hoped that by using the picks of the participants in MadDog's Challenges over a long enough period of time, [many of them chosen in a systematic way,] the results would finally convince [some] staunch believers in an advantage to system play that it really doesn't matter how they choose their numbers. It

MADDOG'S Powerball Challenges (Discussion)
Stack47, RJOh, You must think I am the only one who will notice that you are [not so] cleverly evading the questions posed above. I think not. You must also think your prior claims that you can beat the odds will be forgotten. I think not. I made the request, I'm sure I am not the only one who would be fascinated to read just how YOU would spend $3168 on one Powerball draw. Of course, I don't expect you to give up any trade secrets; just impress us by estimating how much better yo

Heart Breaker...
First I wanted to say Hi to each and everyone on the forum. I have been reading the forum for quite awhile now, but this is the first time I have ever posted. I thought this would be a good time to post and tell what happend to me in a recent Powerball Drawing. Powerball is the game I play twice ever week , and I always pick my own numbers. I have came close quite a few times in the past year, since I started playing Powerball every week. I wont bore you with the close misses I have had, ( ev
