Ever wish not to win the PB...
Not sure how its interpretted as a joke. How is splitting a jackpot with a person you happen to know a joke? Unless you would each be laughing to the bank when cashing that awesome amount! :)Perhaps your intentions may have been less then honorable but a postitive outlook on the event can be a win win for each person. No harm no foul. And to answer your question, Players often play for the chance to win...

Probability of a MegaMillions rollover.
The Megamillions has rolled over again, and the cash value has risen. Based on sales, the cash value reached $97.9 and is expected to rise to $113M, the annuity value from $165M to $192. This means that the lottery expects to sell about $47.4M tickets. From these values I estimate the probability of various numbers of winners as follows:076.36%120.60%22.78%30.25%40.02%Looking at my last post, we can see that I underestimated where the jackpot would be on this drawing by $7M annuity. However

Probability of a Rollover in Powerball.
I have nothing to do with it. The probability of a particular number of winners is determined by the number of tickets purchased and the odds of winning the lottery. It is also possible for an improbable event to occur, for instance, and outcome with a less than 1% probability is still a possibility.

Powerball jackpots
That's why I wanted to put this poll question in event that PB does go to a 5/55+1/42 format. This question will be a test to see what was the first jackpot of the new matrix. When MM was doing the 5/56+1/46 format, the first draw was 42 million.

CT Powerball?
The Mega Millions group has said on numerous occasions that they will not let any new states join. CT would've been stuck with Classic Lotto, although I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be classic anymore if such an event happened.

Megamillions and Powerball Games
jimbo you wrote Dream on! --Jimmy4164 P.S. It would be interesting to know how RL will recognize a Truly Random Event, when he sees one. :-) I will never recognize a random event because random does not exist. Action and reaction, cause and effect. Pseudo random generators are attempts to hide processes. You mistake obfuscation for random. RL

Lotto America 2019
If they are using balls, they can video record the event and put it on YouTube. It's not exactly a miracle of computing science to get it done.

MM winner tonight? (7/17/08 edition)- PLEASE BE REALISTIC
Friday when the jackpot was $340 million, about 27.5 million tickets were sold. Divide the number of tickets sold by the number of possible outcomes and you'll see that there was less than a 10% chance of somebody having a jackpot winning ticket. Might be more tickets sold for the 7/17 drawing but there still will be an 85% the jackpot won't be won. Would plan an outdoor event like a picnic or a wedding with an 85% chance of rain?
