Why you might go bankrupt if your next-door neighbor wins the lottery
It's worth noting that this study does not deal with what most people here would consider large jackpots. It looks at Canadian provincial lotteries, with prizes ranging from C$1,000 to C$150,000. It deliberately excludes the big winners.

Do you buy tickets even when the jackpot isn't high?
I play PB/MM and hoosier lottery every week...like others i use advance play so only have to buy once a month. I study the past winning numbers and pick a set for each game and see how it plays out for the month...then i do the same process all over again for the next month.

7 reasons to be glad you didn't hit the PB
Well, I do agree in theory because I think for every bad story, there are a hundred - or many more - good ones. The media knows that a story of someone who lost it all grabs more attention than a story about someone who took their win and used it wisely. ( If it bleeds, it leads. ) I also think that 65% figure of all lottery winners go bankrupt is numerical fiction. I've seen a 70% number tossed around, and IF the article cites a source, it's attributed to a National Endowment for Financial Edu

Size of jackpot holds no significance to me. If it's a game I study, I have to keep up on it, and that means writing out the lines. You know what they say about practice....

The odds are you won't hit a major jackpot. So...
I pick 1, 3 and 6. I study the numbers, I see it as a challenge and its almost become a hobby to me. Believe it or not, I find it kind of relaxing, coming home from work, going over the numbers and trying to hit the next drawing. To me its fun.

Lovely job! I'm not quite sure I get it all just yet, but I'm going to study it a bit to take it all in. Thanks for sharing your work.
