In some states it's legal to open an online account and wager and watch the live races from all over the World on your home computer. Ever bet on the Australian tracks where the horses run clockwise or the Quarter horse races that are over with in few seconds? A long time ago, before there were state lotteries and people could only play with bookies, the number (Pick 3, that's all there was) came from the last three dollar digits of the total handle at a horse race track. the race track would vary to prevent any collusion. Let's say for a particular day the Outfit - AHEM - was using Belmont and the total handle for the day was $385,221.96 That days' number would have been 221 - the last three dollar digits.

The KY race tracks have simulcast off track betting and some of them added slot machines and many of those machines are almost exactly the same as the slot machines in most casinos in other states. The only difference is the KY machines must have a horse racing theme, probably because of Kentucky state gambling laws. Never been to Derby City Gaming, but according to their web site, those slots are like the ones at The Red Mile and the other seven slot machine casinos located in Kentucky. IMO

If you went to a horse race track and there was a sign at the windows: All winning bets will receive IOUs and be paid at a later date would you make bets at the track? Illinois didn't even do that, there's was no 'heads up' and this wasn't even in the news until people were issued IOUs instead of getting paid.

Coin Toss already mentioned quinellas and perfectas and they have been around for over 150 years so I'll start with Global Horse Racing . Am hoping that this goes away and have genuine slot machines. The Red Mile must have newer slot machines because most say nothing about historical horse racing. And they have a huge off track betting area upstairs. across the river where it is automatic $1199 and above Doesn't the IRS control how gaming winnings are taxed?
