Tenn. lawmakers want to force lottery to drop computer draws
There is new discussion in the Tennessee Legislature about the possibility of the state lottery going back to using ping-pong balls to select the Cash 3 and Cash 4 winners. In 2007, a computer programming error prevented anyone who played repeated digits, such as two fives in a row, from winning. The error was discovered Aug. 20 when lottery officials contacted the system designer, Smartplay, about their concerns. The lottery is asking Smartplay, and the company that certified the syste

Will you play lotto with your Tax Rebate check?
Cool question! Our president's proposal will backfire just as the previous one did. I plan to save the entire check and I think so will many others who are stuck in our current economy. I will NOT go and spend it in the mall like they want. But I still have to play my regular lotto-I really plan/hope to win someday and change my life. I will play the same amount though, I can't afford extra. I MAY play a $5 scratch-off here and there that I like, but nothing crazy.

NJ Lottery to enforce child support withholdings from winners
Law already on the books, now legislature insists on its enforcement New Jersey moved closer Thursday to collecting its due from lottery winners who owe the state money. A measure approved unanimously by the Assembly would require lottery officials to deduct outstanding debt before awarding prize money. The proposal would affect anyone who wins more than $600 and owes the state money. State officials estimate that the new requirement would raise $800,000 to $1 million a year. The

Lottery pool
IF is not good enough! First, WIN SOMETHING that would dazzle us all, then WE might reconsider your offer. My first thought when reading your post is that your pretty naive to think that people would jump on your bandwagon without showing us something tangible...like past winning reciepts or tickets etc;etc. On the other hand... if you would consider to pay all the taxes on any money won then I would reconsider your proposal.

Nevada Gov. opposes lottery bill
Gov. Jim Gibbons said Monday he opposes amending Nevada's Constitution to permit a state lottery. I respect recent efforts by some legislators to explore options for new revenue to the state; however, I do not believe it is a proper function of Nevada government to operate a lottery, nor do I think that the state should be in competition with its largest industry, said Gibbons in a prepared statement. The lottery amendment is in AJR5 introduced last week by Assemblyman Harry Mortenson, D

Nevada panel passes lottery proposal
The casino moguls are the ones that also PAY out the ying yang for taxes that DO go to support the education system there. Nevada is unique in how it gains revenue, most of it does come from the gaming industry. Adding a Lottery system means having to hire an outside source to run the game ( revenue loss at startup) having to market it ( revenue loss) and having folks find interest in it should it pass legislation. I am neither for or against this proposal . What does need to be considered

Nevada panel passes lottery proposal
It's a good thing for those legislators that passed this proposal that it's 2007 and not 1967 (or so) - more than a few of them would probably be moving (rather involuntarily. I'm afraid) into new underground apartments in the nearby desert...

Poll Number #3
Australia no longer uses 1c and 2c coins, so all prices are rounded to the 5c. You want to pay more for each lottery ticket (and have to deal with change virtually every time)? In the 1990s there was a proposal to add a 25c surcharge on a one-dollar NY lottery ticket within NYC; this would have meant a 32% payout on NY Blotto if enacted.
