Rising Gas Prices and the LotteryReply
Periodically I deliberately stop playing for a while. (Could be for a month or so) It really doesn't have so much to do with the economy as much as it does me. I intentionally do it so that I know that I'm in control and not the lottery. Right now, I stopped playing regularly a couple of weeks ago. Because Florida has a raffle going on right now, (ends July 2nd) I'll probably pick up a ticket in May, or maybe in June. We'll see. G5

232407 tickets sold as of 05/08, up 18219 from last Friday's sales update from Florida Lottery. At 69 days in, that averages 3368 sold per day. If sales proceed at this rate, it will be around 411000 total sold by the end of the raffle. I may buy anther one before the next drawing...

You either match the winning ticket number or you don't. Big deal. Granted, there are people out there afflicted with oneawayitis (two on this board, one from MD and one from GA), but that's their problem for being stupid. Good luck, GiveFive! With so few tickets sold, are you going to buy more? I'm shocked that the FL lottery wrote the raffle rules they way they did. Big player's advantage.

The current raffle is capped at 2,000,000 tickets. But ticket sales have been so slow since March 1st when tickets first went on sale, there's no way they'll ever sell 2,000,000. As of yesterday they've only sold about 337,000. The sales cycle ends on June 30th, so the odds of them selling out 2 million tickets have a snowball's chance in Hell. I also told him how raffle ticket sales have been very slow. I can't tell you what he actually said because Todd's software will snip it, but it was something along the lines of NO SHXX! . I'm guessing that The Fla Lottery wont post on their website how many raffle tickets were actually sold. So I came up with a crazy idea. There's a gas station not far from my house. I might run over there around 7/8 PM on June 30th and buy a ticket. Doing that won't reveal the total number of tickets that were actually sold, but it should reveal a pretty good approximation of total sales. I'll post the number here, if I actually do it. G5

They very well have misjudged how players are thinking these days. They do say that this particular raffle is a promotion which makes me think it's not going to be offered again anytime soon. If ticket sales don't materialize like they want/need, then I doubt they'll bring it back. For many players 20 bucks a pop is a tough sell. It is a very good thing from a players perspective. Where can players find lower odds to win a million dollars? Remains to be seen if there will be a last minute rush to buy raffle tickets. (Hope not!) June 30 is when ticket sales end. Final drawing for 10 one million dollar top prize winners is July 2nd. I have to believe the winning numbers will be generated by a computer. I'm not sure if 415,000 tickets sold is a good thing or not. it's good from the players standpoint of lower odds to win a million dollars, but whether or not the Florida Lottery will cut the number of winners from 10 down to a lower number due to lower sales is another thing altogether.
