Connecticut to audit lottery winners for back taxes
After successfully targeting deadbeat parents, the state of Connecticut is going after tax evaders' lottery winnings.
Beginning Dec. 31, a new law will take effect requiring the Connecticut Lottery Corporation to deduct delinquent taxes, crosschecked with the Department of Revenue Services, from any claim of $5,000 or more.

Dropping out of lottery pool costs teacher millions
Dave Johnston is kicking himself for pulling out of a lottery pool that's about to cash in a lucky ticket for $30 million.
The steam-fitting instructor at Red Deer College in central Alberta, Canada, used to play regularly with plumbing teachers he sat with in the school's lunchroom every day.
But he pulled out over a year ago.

Tenn. lawmakers float ideas to improve lottery revenues
Tennessee state Senate minority leader is calling on fellow lawmakers to find ways to increase lottery revenues instead of cutting back on the scholarship program, while Gov. Bill Haslam has assigned his staff to consider a broad range of options for stabilizing the game's finances.

Arkansas Lottery anticipates drop in revenue next year
Delays participation in Decades of Dollars game
The Arkansas Lottery Commission approved a new budget Wednesday that takes into account expected reductions in revenue.
Under the budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1, operating revenue would be $459 million, compared to $464 million for the current fiscal year, with $100 million in net proceeds, down from $105 million.
Lottery Director Ernie Passailaigue said the budget for the upcoming year is based on actual revenue.

A corporate lawyer from Shaker Heights who was the first woman to head the Ohio State Bar Association will be taking the reins of the Ohio Lottery Commission.
