Egypt Nos
Mathematics in ancient Egypt Table of Contents The introduction of writing in Egypt in the predynastic period ( c. 3000 BCE) brought with it the formation of a special class of literate professionals, the scribes . By virtue of their writing skills, the scribes took on all the duties of a civil service: record keeping, tax accounting, the management of public works (building projects and the like), even the prosecution of war through overseeing military supplies and payrolls. Young men enrol

Nature of Randomness in Mechanical Systems

Approximating chaotic systems
Chaotic systems are a subset of nonlinear systems. The following Nonlinear Dynamics video series by Prof. Liz Bradley , a course funded by the Santa Fe Institute, is worth a watch for better understanding nonlinear systems and practical issues when characterizing them. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLF0b3ThojznQ9xUDm-EbgFAnzdbeDVuSz During the course, she mentions a Nonlinear Time Series Analysis book, which is also worth looking at. The author of that book gave a talk wher

My fascination -The first digit
I n my books a good predictor is measured by how he can correctly read the first digit. Ricklou's books are irrelevant because Ricklou doesnt pay out prizes. The state lottery pays out prizes. In the state lottery's book, a good predictor is someone who hits every single number, not just the first. Mathematically, the first number is no more or less important than the others, and this is the mathematics forum. When you make dumb non-mathematical posts, expect to get joke responses.

Approximating chaotic systems
Mandelbrot is one of the OG researchers of chaotic systems. He introduced fractal dimension to help characterize chaotic systems. I have two of his books, which I bought while frequenting a used technical book store in the early 90s (before web browsing). The Fractal Geometry of Nature and Fractals, Form, Chance, and Dimensions are the two books. I just quickly scanned them over. I found and quickly looked at chapters 1,2, and the TOC of The (mis)behavior of Markets online. This looks to be earl

Nature of Randomness in Mechanical Systems
I recommend reading the book Dynamics of Gambling: Origins of Randomness in Mechanical Systems if you want a good understanding of exactly how randomness arises in coin flipping, dice throwing, and the roulette wheel. In particular, Chapter 5, entitled Nature of Randomness in Mechanical Systems The authors model mechanical systems in high detail to allow them to calculate the bounds on initial condition uncertainties needed to allow correct prediction. They do not model a lotto bal

NUMEROLOGY FASINATING Numbers Rule the Universe
Some Numbers are more Beautiful than others. Anyone here have a pair of X-Ray Glasses from a Very Old Comic Book Add? You can't trust the New Ones you know. Digital stuff is a trap manipulated by the Dark Side. The Old ones were analog and claimed to allow you to see under things. I heard they were taken off the market, like moters that run on water. I heard that if you put red film over one eye and green over the other one, you could see colored pictures. Bet you coul

NUMEROLOGY FASINATING Numbers Rule the Universe
Ancient Times Numbers rule the Universe Actually there is evidence of numerology being used thousands of years ago in Rome, Greece, China and Japan too. The ancient Chaldeans (waaaay back in ancient Babylonia) understood that all things are composed of energy vibrating at different frequencies (today, modern science is just catching up with this concept!). For them, numerology provided a simple system to understand the qualities of these vibrations, on both personal and univer
