Welcome to the LP martinfan763. With there being so many dishonest clerks out there it's best to scan your ticket yourself, however I do both I use the self scanner then I have the clerk scan the ticket as well, just make sure you sign your ticket before you hand it over to the clerk to check.

Is this a trick question Ridge...LOL..... I definietly wouldn't give it to the clerk how many stories have we read about dishonest clerks stealing tickets.

I expect it will be as much warning as sending somebody to jail for any other crime. A few dishonest clerks will think they can get away with it, and odds are they'll be right.

That's fine for tickets that can't be cashed at a store, but doesn't mean much if a clerk wants to give you $50 and then take the rest for a ticket that's worth a few hundred bucks. I expect that thenlottery deliberately uses tickets with big prizes so that the dishonest clerks can be charged with a felony, but if they don't also use smaller tickets means that somebody with a smaller ticket isn't part of a sting operation.

The clerks know which of their regular players hit the most often. After the customer leaves, they just need to pull up a printout and play the same numbers themselves. Are there dishonest clerks that rip people off? Yep. But that happens to the players who hand their tickets to the clerk and say, Can you check this for me . If they would check the tickets themselves, that would end.

I also think the same thing about the people who drop $20 or $50 for a single raffle ticket only to never claim the $1,000 prize their ticket won....I see such listings in Illinois many months after the raffle. Why waste $20 when you don't even bother to go pickup your $1,000 prize? Heck, even if a person owes back taxes or child support, even in excess of $1,000, at least that is about $750 less that they will end up paying from their wages. But to the main point I noted from this story...

CA lottery was super aggressive with this thing at one time,confiscating equipment, levelling charges on dishonest clerks, then people started complaining.Our Commission thought them too aggressive, whatever that means.Glad to see Ceo Mr Integrity Bill is on the job.
