So, Publisher's Clearinghouse had a Sweepstakes where if you win you were supposed to win millions of dollars for life through an annuity program. They even had an annuity program where when you die someone you chose as your heir, gets millions of dollars until they die. Recently and suddenly, PCH went bankrupt, leaving winners suddenly in financial ruin. One winner won the annuity Sweepstakes roughly 10 years ago and quit his job since he was promised millions of dollars until his death. He was

El Gordo - Spanish Raffel Lottery
Yup, America needs a lottery like that. This is as close as we ever got but it mwas illegal to buy tickets for it in the US; Irish Sweepstakes , one of the largest lotteries promoted internationally; it was authorized by the Irish government in 1930 to benefit Irish hospitals. A private trust was formed to run the lottery and market tickets throughout the world. During the 57 years of its existence, the contest derived more revenue from the United States than from any other country,

I believe there were a couple of FTC cases where PCH had to send checks to people who ordered magazines. Pch had told people they had to order to be in the sweepstakes. They were always engaged in deceptive practices. More than a few elderly people thought they had won.

Thank you for that indepth detailed link to the PCH Annuity Sweepstakes Bankruptcy. :) I was mistaken when I said he was supposed to get millions until his death, turns out he was getting $260,000 a year before taxes. That's still a very nice chunk of change to live off. There are people who work for 10 years and accumulate around $260,000 minus taxes and he was getting that every year for 10 years and not having to work. He shouldn't have blown his money frivolously.

Mega Millions and Powerball Race
Tucker Black. Ok. I grew up on the northeast coast, way before America had any lotteries people played 'policy' or 'the numbers' (illegal pick 3), the number was decided by the last three dollar digits of the mutual handle of varying race tracks. At that time the Irish sweepstakes was very popular when ever tickets were available. I forget the price but those who have access to offering such things know that a player will always find action.

"I can't believe it!" North Carolina man hugs store clerk after winning $2 million prize
That is true but why take a 20 year annuity when we don't know if we will around that long. Also no one knows where the money is being kept to pay out the annuity each year. If that place goes bankrupt, your money is gone. It reminds me of the Publishers Clearing House sweepstakes that went bankrupt in 2025. A guy had won the 5K a Week For Life prize, 10 years ago then quit his job. He had received a check for 260K a year for the last 10 years. Now the checks have stopped coming. At the age of 6
