Proposal to ban welfare recipients from playing lottery
If you have money to play th elottery then you don't need help from the rest of us to buy food or pay your rent. You can substitute the words, cigarettes, alcohol, cases of pop, bags of potato chips, etc. and most will agree with you. However, the legislation isn't just about what people on welfare buy, but the vendor selling the lottery ticket would be penalized if they knew the person was on welfare or in bankruptcy. I've seen people pay for groceries using EBT cards that drive off in

Proposal to ban welfare recipients from playing lottery
I think there is bigger waste of taxpayers money made and being spent by the pollies and public service. how ever much welfare is spent on lotto, it is dwarfed by the amount misspent by GOV in jut 1 day, than a whole years worth of welfare recipients. stop harrassing the little guys, and go after the big spenders.

Technically its plausible and conceivable for a person on welfare to have cash . A person is allowed to make meager income and still receive reciprical funds thru the state to make ends meet. Maybe they are selling aluminum cans and getting money that way. Our babysitting a child on weekends. We c

Proposal to ban welfare recipients from playing lottery
I can't see how this is enforceable, since there's no way to tell if someone is on welfare or not unless they admit to it. I think it's just an elected official trying to score points with his constituents, regardless of if what he is going to do will be effective or make a difference. Back in the 90s, I worked in a welfare office interviewing people trying to get benefits and I could tell some stories. Another law I remember being passed was we had to collect information on the absent par

Welfare lottery ban
Buying lottery or tobacco or alcohol with EBT is NOT allowed in any state. But, for big jackpot winners on welfare, yes, going back 10 years money is deducted from winnings. Not fair, but keeps welfare cases from playing anything but MM, PB, and low prizes like 3 numbers for $40-$500 Anything above $601 is reported to IRS, and taxes are taken out; thus, playing 4 numbers for $2500 is not worth it. Child support, and back taxes are taken out also. So, if you win $35,000 on NY Take5, - ta
