Two Canadian lotteries change privacy policies to hide winner's last names in press releases
Winner stories live on forever : Digital footprint concerns in modern age drive policy change
By Kate Northrop
The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG)'s recent policy change makes it the second provincial lottery in Canada to hide winner's last names in press releases and publications.
Although total lottery winner anonymity is not a standard in any Canadian provincial lottery, two of Canada's lotteries have taken steps to conceal and protect winner information.

Money and the Crime of Kidnaping
JustMaybe, One of the best jackpot winner stories is about a young married guy in the Navy. His wife asked him to get out of the Navy and they actually had some kind of program that let him out. Later on he was interviewed and asked if he was going to buy a high end car. He said he had looked at a few and thought, I could buy that if I wanted to but I don't want to.

Kentucky man goes into "full panic mode" after winning $250,000 in the lottery
I've noticed that most stories about big winners are from scratch-off tickets. Few big winner stories are from Powerball or Megamillions.
Of course, I'm not surprised. I've done the math and concluded that scratch-off tickets are a better deal than PB/MM, but there are people on this forum convinced otherwise. They think that $846 million is somehow better than $250,000 or $1 million or whatever despite the ridiculous odds of winning $846 million.
Would you rather have a realistic chance

One of my favotire jackpot winner stories is about a very young sailor who won a jackpot, his wife wanted him to leave the Navy and the Navy let him.
I thouygh he was one of the smartest winners ever when someone interviewed him and asked him about winniing a jackpot and he said, Well, now when I look at hot cars I think I could buy that, but I don't.

15 New Jersey "Night of Millionaires" Powerball winners claim prizes of $1 million and more
From birthday luck to dream-inspired intuition: NJ winners share their joyful tales
By Kate Northrop
The New Jersey Lottery has been reporting a slew of winners skipping through their doors to claim prizes of $1 million and more after one Powerball drawing in April resulted in a Night of Millionaires.
After the April 29 Powerball drawing produced 89 second-tier prize winners of at least $1 million, 15 out of 18 New Jersey lottery winners have claimed their winnings, each coming in w

Powerball jackpot hits $1 billion after building for months
I'm talking about the current one to see where this jackpot rates on this list and expect it to jump several more spots sans winner tonight. After feel good stories that Todd Kate scour the USA for those, this is my second best reading on LP!

Over $9.5 million in unclaimed lottery winnings expiring soon in Washington
No, there is nothing fishy about the retail system in Washington. Just like every other state, there are millions of dollars worth of unclaimed tickets that expire every year. People buy tickets put them in the glove box in their car, an old shoe box or drawer in their home and forget all about the tickets. I have read countless stories where someone was cleaning out their car one day and found a bunch of lottery tickets in the glove box. They had the tickets checked and found a major winner, da

Florida and Claiming a Jackpot Anonymously
You could always ask them what their policy is. The NY page doesn't always have pictures, but I'm not sure if they have an entry for every player that wins at least $1 million or a lifetime prize. I don't know how far back it goes, but you can keep adding older stories to the NY age for a while. If Florida only shows a dozen recent winners they're definitely not showing every million dollar winner, but I don't see any obvious reason that recent has to mean in the last month or two. They're basic

84-year-old Michigan man will share $481,582 Fantasy 5 lottery jackpot with loved ones
The news items posted here are from people who provide interesting stories. Lottery news is not every single winner, or there would be pages of them every day. Old people are no more likely to win than young people.
The ones who provide interesting stories are the ones who have lucky numbers, they use their family's birthdays or ages, they have a routine, and they plan to share their winnings with their families. This tends to skew older.
Younger people are less likely to have a decades-
