Winner takes home $189 million lump sum cash payout after taxes By Todd Northrop At an afternoon press conference, the Hoosier Lottery announced that a Lafayette man claimed a $435.3 million Powerball jackpot that was drawn in February. Lottery-winner secrecy bill dies in Idaho Senate
An Idaho Senate panel has killed legislation that would have allowed lottery winners to hide their identities. The Senate State Affairs Committee on Wednesday voted 8-1 to halt the measure that would have kept the names of individuals who win $600 or more secret. While the bill would have allowed winners to give written authorization to the lottery to publicize their names, the proposal also prevented those names from being released under public records requests for six months after the pr

Idaho Lottery-winner secrecy bill headed to House floor
A proposal to provide more confidentiality for lottery winners got pushback Wednesday from the Idaho State Lottery Commission, but was ultimately approved by a legislative panel. This idea came to me from one of my constituents: an elderly lady who was a lottery winner but was quickly harassed by phone calls and people showing up at her door, trying to separate her from her winnings, said Rep. Lynn Luker (R-Boise). If we approve this, Idaho would join six other states that offer some form of

Anonymous donor gives church $100k winning lottery ticket
You could call it a Christmas miracle. Somebody won a $100,000 lottery ticket and instead of cashing it in themselves, they handed it over to a church for a higher use. A donor gave the lottery winnings to Saint Anthony' Shrine, the same church that was robbed earlier in December. The money will go toward feeding and providing community outreach services to the less fortunate and homeless, Father Thomas Conway said. He's really really touched people and inspired them and made them feel be

The anonymous donation, made Dec. 6 outside the Walmart in Harborcreek Township, 5741 Buffalo Road, had the appearance of any other donation. But the timing of the generous gift could not have been better for the Erie County Salvation Army, as the agency's kettle drive continues to struggle once again through a holiday season
