The longtime head of the Rhode Island Lottery is stepping down.
Gerald Aubin, who has served as director of the Lottery since 1996, announced Friday that he will retire in the spring after nearly a quarter-century in the job. He oversees both traditional games such as scratch tickets as well as the two state-owned casinos operated by Twin River.

Lottery giant IGT is sole bidder to run sports betting in R.I.
IGT, the company that runs Rhode Island's electronic lottery systems, is the sole bidder for a contract to run the state's proposed foray into sports betting.
The Lottery issued a request for proposals on the sports betting contract last month and although 18 firms participated in a pre-bid conference on the contract, the Providence-based company formerly known as GTECH was the only one to submit a bid by last Friday's deadline, the R.I. Nine students from several Rhode Island colleges gathered at Twin River Casino Wednesday night to audition for jobs reading the Daily Numbers and Wild Money numbers for the Rhode Island Lottery.

RI man nearly throws away $50,000 Powerball ticket

A Johnston, Rhode Island, man nearly threw out a Powerball ticket worth $50,000.
The Rhode Island Lottery Commission said that the man, who asked not to be publicly identified, bought the ticket back in February. He found the ticket in his car and was about to throw it away, but a friend stopped him and told him to check it just to be sure.
The ticket matching four numbers and the Powerball was from the Feb. 3 drawing. Such a ticket is worth $50,000.

9 charged with illegal lottery, bookmaking in Rhode Island
Providence police say they've arrested nine people and seized cash and drugs after discovering illegally lottery and bookmaking operations at several businesses in the city.
Police announced Thursday that they executed search warrants for several locations last weekend and seized about $60,000, other items and paperwork associated with illegal gambling operations. Six people were arrested.

Lottery fans now have another opportunity to win big. The Rhode Island Lottery is adding a midday drawing to the Numbers Game.
Up until now, the Numbers Game only had an evening drawing. This new midday drawing begins Sunday, May 11.

A man from East Providence, Rhode Island, has claimed more than $180,000 in lottery winnings, a day after his son won $1,000 in a different game.
