they would have to increase it by quite a bit to accomidate CA.

I've redone my website.  Go to www.dr-ew.com.  I kept a lot of the old stuff, and I've added some new stuff.  Look for more new stuff in the coming weeks.

1 in 240 million should be high enough of odds for california.

Anyone know when the changes happen or when tickets are to be sold in CA?

It's like waiting for a broken car to get fixed.

I'd like to see the game and odds go unchanged for a year after California joins and then assess the situation. Then they would have proof that the jackpot was hit time after time between $10-40 million. Currently the odds are 135 million to 1. That means that even if they sold 100 million tickets a drawing there would be 35 million unplayed numbers, and if any one of them come up, no winner. I can't see that it's so dire it needs to be changed.

Yes, California might increase ticket sales 1.5 times, but that's not really enough to warrant an odds increase.

We already have all the proof we need. Its broken. move on. Powerball just isn't smart enough to fix their game. If high odds and crappy prizes are what you seek you can just go to a powerball state and play that. I just am tired of two broken games.

How is Mega Millions broken?  Its jackpot runs broke $100 million twice in a row recently!

I long for the good old days when it was called "The Big Game" and there were only 6 states! There has not been a winner from Michigan for a very long time now.

Yes, but the Big Game started as annuity-only.

You have to define "broken".  It is true that the MA lottery website has this quote:

Did you know..... Jackpots for The Big Game - Mega Millions are expected to reach
up to a Mega $500 Million.

And they have haven't even gone past $300 million.  And with Texas added, are even more unlikely to do so. So the lottery bean counters may be disappointed, but I don't think the players or winners are disappointed in $50-$150 million.

It is interesting that even before Texas was added, the lottery expected $500 million jackpots. Obviously the experts did the odds and calculations and analysis, so why didn't the jackpots of $300-500 mil happen even once after they raised the odds? What went wrong with the analysis? If they were off because ticket sales were higher than expected, that means the lottery is making more money than they expected to, so how can the lottery be disappointed in that?

I worry that a hike in the Mega Millions odds will mean a migration back to NY Lotto (and its terrible prize return).
