Still don't see it but I do see people have found severed fingers in Ice cream and pudding now. Must be some kind of new prize like in Cracker Jack.

I have no idea why some people fight these things. It's like the prohibitionists revisited.

And the high court upheld the state's participation in the Mega Millions multistate lottery game by a 7-0 vote.

              I think you misunderstood.

No. I understood that Megamillions was upheld. I just don't understand the motivations behind those who were challenging it.

Gambling is not healthy, you know. At least for people with addictive personalities.

Mega Millions hardly contributes to compulsive gambling.  Normally, compulsive gambling occurs with slot machines, where it is known immediately whether you won or lost and you can instantly gamble again.

Compulsive gambling is most problematic when you spend a lot of money on it. And compared to slots, racing, casino games, and sports gambling, it's really pretty hard to lose a lot of money in one day on the lottery. Spending too much on the lottery can certainly be a problem, especially with Keno, but if you don't play Keno or instant games, you have to try in order to spend more than $1000/year on the lottery, which is what you'll spend if you hit a bar a couple of times a week, or if you smoke a pack a day, or have any one of a number of hobbies (bowling, golf, everquest, working on cars, etc.)

The lottery is a good way to get started on gambling, though, so in that respect it does feed compulsive gambling.

i don't consider playing the lottery a problem.

If you play and expect (not hope, expect) to win all your money back and more, then you have a problem. If you're having fun and just dream about winning, then you're O.K. as long as you don't spend too much.
