Actually, I am a legally ordained minister.

    Thomas,

That hardly seems possible, unless you got that title as some kind of ruse.

I do have a good memory for these things, and I know (for example) that you were even for removing "God" from the Pledge of Allegance.  Also, the "when pigs fly" image (as I recall) has some meaning or significance other than an innocent lottery reference, right?

To each their own, but I just wanted to set the record straight.

There is nothing deceptive about my title, as it is legal and available to all without regard to belief. Although even I admit that it lacks credibility in some circles. I did post an antipodal website when someone posted a "Save the Pledge" website. It was intended as an opposing view. But it's not really an issue with me. "When pigs fly" is just an idiom used to express something that will never happen. As far as I know it doesn't have any significance in the atheist community.

Okay, now I believe you can predict lottery numbers

No big deal, I just wanted to point out that to most people the term "minister" is for one who has strong [positive] religious beliefs, rather than obtaining the title for some other reason.  I thought from discussions (going back a couple of years) that you really supported the effort to remove God from the Pledge, no?  Also, I remember someone (can't remember who) had linked the pig flying thing to an atheist concept, but maybe that person was wrong.

Anyway, like I said, to each their own.  We're all going to find out for sure one day.

Yup, I love my VB.  This site wouldn't be here without it!  (Built on VBScript, which is one of the two ASP programming languages, the other being JScript.)  Also, when building stand-alone apps, I always build them in VB.  (Now VB.Net)

as far as i know,  there is no official connection to the analogy "when pigs fly"  ....among the atheist community.    it's not like it is their national flag (lol).  however "they" refer to it all the time when attempting  to refute/debate God and/or christianity.   it's one of their favorite little picture analogies.         "when pigs fly, THEN i will believe in God"

it's so common that thomas knows this.  so most likely, it was selective memory.

don't know what kind of ministerial "title" he holds, but i know this, one can be bought over the internet through the universal life church for diddly squat.  they have been selling them for years. but just as in life, the "title" only matters when one can live up to it's design/description.  otherwise it is just a piece of paper.  i could go down to the trophy shop and commission them to make me a desk plate that reads "visiondude,  CEO of microsoft", but that wouldn't change the fact that i am a driving school instructor (lol).  at least i am wiling to live up to that "title".

most likely though, he got it at a time when he might have lived up to it, then decided differently.  i was just referring to the fact that anyone could buy one without having any background credentials for "deserving" one.

one thing thomas and i do agree on, is that lottery numbers cannot be predicted.  however, i am "warming up" to the idea that it is mathematically possible thru certain combinations to maybe stack the odds a "little" more in ones favor ....but only in a pick3 game.

I did a google search with the terms "when pigs fly" and "atheist" and received 297 hits. I then did a search with the terms "dog" and "atheist" and received 615,000 hits. I also did a search with "Bugs Bunny" and "atheist" and received 3600 hits. So I guess it is not as common as you think, V-Dude. No, not selective memory, just knowledge.

The title is through the Universal Life Church. And it is free of charge. It's the other things which costs money. Like the " Ministry In A Box" and the " Monastery Credential Package". But unlike the deskplate, this is legal. You can even perform marriages.

Theoretically, on paper, it is possible to bend the odds a little on the pick 3. Maybe. The Laws of Probability is kinda contradictory on this.

Personally, I think the Pledge thing was absolutely ridiculous. A lot of the things atheists do are ridiculous. I sometimes present alternative views, but mostly that's just for the purpose of debate.

                TC,

Don't get me wrong.  Although you and I may disagree on certain things, I like the diversity you bring, and you never post messages without thinking them through.  Variety is the spice of life.

Plus, now that people know you can perform marriages, maybe you'll get some business through this site!

US Merchant Marine . Been out about 20 months or so due to an accident on a ship enroute from Djibouti , East Africa to Houston , Texas. Plan to return to work hopefully before the end of this year.

Found out yesterday I may be released from the Docs on June 19th, about a month from now to go back to sailing again. Been a long haul in recovering.

That's good news Blackie. I hope you have that Lap top to take along with you so that you can keep posting. We'll miss you on those long hauls.

What branch of the military?  My husband is in the Navy Reserves.  He just finished a year of active duty, six months in the middle east and six months in Tampa.  Let me tell you, that was one long year..
