Hi,

On June 24th when California joins the Mega Millions family, I would like to know what happens to the current JP.  Does Mega Millions just prorate the last JP from the 20th or do Californians' get a crack at the growing JP? Would like to know.

it all depends on if the jackpot is hit the drawing before or not.

if the jackpots hit the draw before CA joins, then it is reset to the starting amount.

if nobody hits the jackpot before CA joins, then CA gets whatever jackpot it is.

I've redone my website.  Go to www.dr-ew.com.  I kept a lot of the old stuff, and I've added some new stuff.  Look for more new stuff in the coming weeks.

The jackpot couldn't automatically be reset, because what would happen to all that money??  That's all your money, lol that I bet you'd like a chance to win back!

There is no way that mega can last the next 7 drawings. The prize would have to be 350+ million before CA and the changes happen on the 24th.  Although it would be ironic if it got to the 300+ million mark before CA had a chance at it.

At the pace the jackpot is going the weds 21 jackpot should be about 275 million. If noone won that adding california into the mix the jackpot would jump to around 400 million, then someone from California would win that. And everyone would complain they only put in for one draw. I have a feeling that the jackpot will rollover till then not that the MM is fixed or anything.

It would be odd that the prize climbed to where it had never been before but it's not fixed. I will leave the "fixed" games to computer drawn games. Last time it climbed that high was on 7/02/04. On mega's highest jackpot of 290 million. Since sales aren't as high I think you are right about the 275-280 range. It's down to 6 drawings now. If it made it I agree with you it would be a record jackpot. The publicity would be great but six drawings at this level is very unlikely.

Here's my updated plot for what it's worth:

              6/3: $106m

              6/7: $124m

              6/10: $150m

              6/14: $177m

              6/17: $220m

              6/21: $290m

              6/24: $430m, first Cali drawing.

The rollovers from 150m to 290m are based on last summer when the cleaning lady from Mass won $290 million.

I think it would be great to see what California could do to boost a mega jackpot.  So what if a Californian wins...at least I would've had my shot.

Wish the copy/paste worked in firefox here.

                my prediction:

                6/3: $106

                6/7: $126

                6/10: $149

                6/14: $175

                6/17: $215

                6/21: $280

                6/24: $380 (first CA game)

MY numbers are based on slower sales with the lottery trying to play it safe on the preditions.

The above was my prediction if it keeps on rolling.  Here is what I think will really happen:

                    6/7: $124m

                    6/10: $10m

                    6/14: $12m

                    6/17: $19m

                    6/21: $27m

                    6/24: $40m first Cali drawing

I think it will hit on the 14th or 17th. For it to get to the 280 level then get hit would be a real poke in the eye to the Californians.

I think somebody is gonna hit it on the tenth. I hope somebody wins before California joins since it wouldn't be fair to the people who contributed to the jackpot.

I hope it rolls until the 21st, then gets hit on that drawing just to piss California off!

I don't believe Californians are even thinking about. It will be whatever it is when it gets here. The lottery has never been about what's fair. The interesting thing if the Jacpot isn't won, is how long it will take for a winner with the 170 million to 1 odds kick in. Just how high will it go if starts at 400M.

You are a slave to the choices you have made.  jk

Has anyone said how REALLY HARD the Mega Millions is to win?  And how when CA joins it's going to be REALLY REALLY HARD to win?  The odds are outrageous already and, yes, I buy ONE ticket here in TX because if you're not in, you certainly don't win.  But 170 MILLION TO 1!!?  It makes the TX Lotto easy to win by comparison.  Has there ever been a poll done on pot size preference vs odds?  I, for one, would like to win a measly 4 million with a "decent" chance to win, than a $100 million with no chance in h*ll.

Only those who attempt the absurd can achieve the impossible.
