Even with a very large amount of CA players wanting to try the new game, there was still no winner in the first 56/46 Mega Millions drawing. Tuesday's jackpot will be $52,000,000.

There were 3 winners of $250,000.  One of them was in CA.

How are you going to win if you don't play?

      For those wondering.

5/10/05 jackpot $34,000,000 rolled to $42,000,000 then rolled to $50,000,000

6/21/05 jackpot $31,000,000 rolled to $42,000,000 then rolled to $52,000,000

It looks like they probably overestimated tonight's jackpot.

Still, it appears to be growing about 25% faster.

Yeah, only difference is the CA winner won't be getting $250,000. They'll get more or less (probably more).

No. It's a pari-mutuel. That's why I said it could be more or less.

There was one winner in CA who will get paid $290,411.

              source: http://www.calottery.com/Games/MegaMillions/WinningNumbers/default.htm?DrawNum=0001

Over $40,000 more than the winner in NY and MA.  If you check out the link above, you will see how pari-mutuel payouts compare to other states.

Yeah, that's probably because they had fewer second place winners than statistically expected.

                  Only TX has the Megaplier.

I was surprised to see California  paid $8 for a 3+0, Ohio paid $10: California paid $1 for 0+1, Ohio paid $2.    Ohio does have a cap if there are more winners than expected at any prize level, so if there are 70+ second prize winners (5+0)as in PowerBall several weeks ago, they will not pay $250,000 to each winner(each State will pay according to their local  sales).   I'll be surprised if PowerBall doesn't have a similar rule when they change their matrix next month since that has happen twice to them in the last year.

Anyone who wants to watch the video of the drawing last night can do so on USA Mega:

                          http://www.usamega.com/mega-millions-drawing.asp?d=6/24/2005

In fact, all drawing videos since Jan. 1, 2004 are available there by going to the past results page, then clicking the drawing date.

Interesting that they did not use the same machines that are used in the studio during normal drawings.  If I were to seriously compile statistics for Mega Millions drawings, I would filter out last night's drawing, for that reason.  (Or maybe just the tube that they drop out of is different?)

I think Mega Millions had a couple of drawing machines that are used "on the road", because the machines look the same as the ones used at Times Square.  However, the ballset appears to be different, based on the "bounce" as they are drawn.

FIXED prizes will be paid if the number of winners are reasonable, however if a group of players played the same numbers and win, the rules change.  Such rare occurrences can happen when players get their numbers from a single source such as fortune cookies(PowerBall a few weeks ago), news papers, news events or lottery *software that predicts the same numbers for all of its users.  *No such software exists as all known software packages give different sets of numbers to each of their users playing the same lotteries making them little better than a RNG or a QP , but QP players do win.

I expexted the jackpot to grow a lot more since there are 39 milion more people playing.
