I just returned from the store where I made a small purchase with a $5 bill. With the $3 change I got 3 powerball quick picks. All three powerball numbers were #22. Doesn't that seem kind of strange?

With the lottery I get all the exercise I need.

Obviously it's part of a vast conspiracy.

Obviously it's part of a vast conspiracy.

I don't think c- store clerks everywhere conspired to sell me three lines with the same powerball number, but I do think it was odd.

I thought quick picks were computer generated random numbers. How random can it be with three powerball numbers the same?

With the lottery I get all the exercise I need.

I always choose my powerball numbers and select QP for the first 5.  BTW I have 22 as a powerball tonight too.  Hope it hits.

How are you going to win if you don't play?

            Wrat,

I figure the odds to be 74,087 to 1.

            Is it rather strange? Yes.

Is it a vast conspiracy? Not likely.

Are the numbers random? All possible numbers are random possibilities.

Would you be happy to win with those numbers? I think so.

            Good luck tonight,

            aye'

I've had that happen too. I figured the lotto machine hiccupped.

I've also picked my own numbers and checked the QP box for the remaining boards. More times than not many of the same numbers repeat.

seems like it would be a little bit more random though....

"random" does not mean "different".  If random = different, then Pick 3 players would never see triples.

                      Todd, you are absolutely correct.

I just think the odds are better to draw the same three numbers out of ten possiblies than to get the same three numbers out of 42 possible numbers.

Is there a formula for this?

                        42^2 for any number

                        42^3 for a specified number.

A while back I got a quick pick for our 5/39 game and the numbers were 32-33-34-35-36.  What?  (I bought another quick pick).

If the lottery has taught me anything, it's that anything can happen with random numbers regardless of probability.
