Did anyone's state lottery game start out with pick 3 numbers?  I'm from NC and most people say that they will start out with scratch off tickets first and then bring the numbers later.

    Janet,

yes, NJ started with a .50cent weekly ticket back on Dec 16, 1970. The NJ lottery didn't start scratch offs until 1975.

NJ, was the third state to start a lottery, behind New Hampshire and NewYork respectively..!

GA began with scratch offs then went to Cash 3.  Here's part of the timeline with a link to full timeline on their site.

June 29, 1993Sales begin, two days before target date, with more than $13 million in tickets sold on the first day. A launch celebration is held at Underground Atlanta with George Jones and the Pointer Sisters providing entertainment.

July 6, 1993Tremendous first-week sales are the equivalent of $7.80 per capita -- the highest first-week per capita sales ever. Retailers numbering close to 5,000 across the state, sell more than 52 million tickets during the first week. Players across the state win more than $25 million in prizes.

July 9, 1993The Georgia Lottery Corporation pays back its start-up loan.

July 12, 1993Demand is so high for the first two instant games -- Instant Cash and Georgia Millionaire --that the third and fourth games -- Cool Cash and Magnolia Millions -- are introduced weeks ahead of schedule.

July 31, 1993The first Georgia Millionaire Grand Prize Drawing is held at Phipps Plaza in Atlanta, offering a grand prize of $1,000 a week for life. Six more live, televised drawings are held over the following months.

      August 10, 1993
CASH 3, the Lottery's first on-line game, is introduced with first- day sales of over $676,000. Average weekly sales are $3.5 million for the first month.

      Good luck to everyone!

TN also started selling Scratch tickets much like GA.  Then about a month later cash 3 came along.  After 3 months we had powerball and 7 months  came lotto 5.

How are you going to win if you don't play?
