Powerball Lottery Jackpot Jumps to $53 Million

Powerball

The jackpot in America's favorite lottery game is still on the way up.

Even though Wednesday evening's draw did not generate a jackpot winner, 340,346 players across the nation won a total of more than $2.1 million in prizes.

Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Wednesday's drawing the jackpot will grow to an estimated $53 million.

The cash option for the Saturday, September 3rd drawing will be an estimated $26.7 million.

The numbers drawn Wednesday night were 13, 17, 19, 41, 50 and the Powerball was 13. The Power Play multiplier was 2.

One lucky player in Arizona correctly matched the 5 white numbers and won $200,000.

Twenty players matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000. Two additional players who won at this prize level also purchased the Power Play for a total win of $20,000.

More than 50,000 winning Powerball players multiplied their prizes by 2 Wednesday. They were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you multiply your Powerball winnings from 2-5 times, except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night's multiplier.

Players should carefully check their tickets after every draw. Even if there are no jackpot winners there are always tens of thousands of winners at other prize levels.

Players purchased more than $13 million in tickets between Sunday and Wednesday night. The lotteries sold approximately $2 billion in Powerball tickets in FY05. That translates into more than $600 million for worthwhile state projects.

Powerball is now played in 27 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and is slated to begin sales in Oklahoma in January, 2006.

It was once America's favorite game, then they got too many small jackpot winners...

Maybe if the jackpots start getting bigger it will become a favorite to more people.  It never really mattered to me, because the odds are still against me. lol. =)

your answer doesn't really answer the question about if it is america's favorite game. the jackpot could be 50 dollars and it could still be america's favorite game. the question is it really america's favorite game. you know this is a silly question but what the hey. lol. by the way i like the avatar you have. it makes me wonder what you truly look like. Starchile:

If PB isn't America's favorite lottery game how could they have it in the first line of the article saying it is?  So there you are.  It's also on the way up.  No way it would say so if it weren't true.

Remember where you heard it.

That claim is still deceiving though.  It should say "America's LARGEST game," because it is depending on how you look at it.  They do have more states than any other multi-state game.

that first line is marketing machine for powerball speaking. it is not independently confirmed. INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW AN INDEPENDENT ASSESMENT.

Attention Powerball Players:
We receive many calls to help the hurricane victims. Profits from the Powerball game go to the 29 states that sell the game and these states are helping. You can help too. Powerball shows that just a dollar can turn into something big. Go to: American Red Cross. (From their website.)

Looks like the PB management team has perfected the pass the buck concept. I'm sure, that if their bonuses had been higher last year, because of fewer jackpots, the management team would have been able to contribute something. So, instead of a huge note on the web page about how the team got together and contributed a couple of dollars, they did nothing.

Actually the first line doesn't say PB is America's favorite lottery.  It doesn't say that anywhere in the article.

All it does is try to implicate it into being America's favorite lottery by pointing out what it has in common with America's favorite lottery.... jackpot going up.

PB might be the actual perpetrator, might be just an accessory to the fact, or might just be some guy that got picked out of a line-up for being ugly.

It will be interesting, once your inquiry catches the minds of the real knowers on these kinds of issues, to see what lottery they're referring to here.

Maybe you're putting too fine an edge on it.  Maybe 'favorite' equals 'biggest'.  Americans love big and they love biggest even more.

They like the Super Bowl better than they like some high school stumbling contest.

They like television sets that cover the wall instead of just some little bitty battery powered thing.

They like football runners who make the most money and cut the heads off their wives, instead of the ones who can only do the one thing.

I'm thinking if PB is the biggest it probably is the favorite.

However, I'm not at all certain PB is the biggest by any definition other than the one about having the most States.  Americans with inquiring minds want to know which lottery has the highest paid CEO and how much he makes.  Then they want to know the average salary of all the employees and how that compares to the competition.

Once they know those things maybe they can figure out who's the favorite.

Let's see...that an average of $6.17 per winning ticket.  Gee, what are the people going to do with such wealth?

Chewie

Good point. I never thought to look at it that way. I bought $12.00 worth of tickets and "won" $3.00 back. The week before I did the same thing and "won" nothing. I don't know what the "winners" are doing with their riches, but a small percentage came from me. Feel free to say thinks.

I might just buy a ticket for Wednesday since I'm angling to be the first player to hit the 5+0 with PowerPlay on the new matrix.

Two "lucky" players, for an extra buck, could've turned $200k into $800,000 cash on Saturday!

I agree with you on the choice of powerplay option for that extra dollar because the least you will get on a 5+0 is $400,000 and if your really lucky a cool million in cash.  Can't go wrong their for as little as two dollars a nice size prize could be coming your way.
