Maybe Todd will comment...

Mega Millions certainly has an anemic roll pattern - well over $100 million and still only growing in $20 (approx.) million increments.

Todd - you watch this pretty closely - waht do you think?

I think the recent events in New Orleans have people sidetracked from playing the lottery.  Don't forget, one of the biggest Mega Millions states -- Texas -- is nearby, and the people there are feeling the effects.

Also, the summertime is traditionally not the best sales period for lottery games.  When we get into fall, things will start to pick up.

Also, things really aren't too far off from what traditionally rolls.  For a quick view, go to www.usamega.com, and click the link for Mega Millions Previous Results.  That page gives you a quick view of jackpot size over time.  You can go back through the pages to see what typical roll amounts have been at the current jackpot size.

(You'll also find tons of useful info by clicking the individual dates to see the detail pages.  There is a good feature inside the detail pages, which lets you jump directly to the previous or next drawing without going back up to the main listing.)

According all to the participating States websites 32% of their MegaMillions ticket sales goes to the jackpot, so an anemic roll pattern is produced by an anemic ticket sales pattern.

Right, that's what I was saying.  Sales are low due to the summertime and the hurricane.

If this keeps up, then MM will eventually keep rolling over into maybe new records. If more people win small MM jackpots, records will never shatter again.
