Todd,

Whats the possibility of letting the chat room run non-stop 24/7? I am not sure if it's a bandwith or server space problem, but thought I would throw the idea on the table.

I would like evening chats.. that would be great.. but would being able to chat keep us from doing our homework?

      tntea,

Of course it wouldn't.  I think that it would only enhance what we already know.

There simply isn't the overwhelming interest level necessary to support 24/7 chat.  As it is, the most people on the chat on Sunday evenings is about 20 or so, but most of the time like 6-10.  If it was all the time there would be many times where nobody at all (or 1 or 2 people) would be online, and I just don't want to invest a lot of time in something that is so sparsely used.

The chat room feature was really a test to see if all the people who SAID they'd be interested would really.  It turns out they weren't, mostly.

(Funny, that concept 1-2 people online reminds me of a certain angry ex-Lottery Post member who thought doing all this stuff is easy, and they were going to show me up by building their own forum.  I guess after months of talking to himself on his own web site, he is starting to realize that he was just being stupid and angry for no reason.)

Great! So when are you going to turn it on 24/7? LOL!

Ok, how about turning it on as tntea suggested? Perhaps evening chats?

            Thanks for responding Todd

It comes on Sunday nights from 8:00 - 10:00.  There is a red banner at the top of the page when it's on.  (You must have missed it tonight?)

                Todd,

Chat room could possible cut down on posts in the forum, saving your bandwidth.

this is 5 to 7 pst time. the last month i have been trying to get in on the chat. by the time i either have dinner or running around. chat time is over and done with and i missed out again. if you don't want to turn it on in the evenings how about expanding the hours on sunday to more than two hours? i have had some interesting conversations on the chat and i have sat and listened to some boring things too. i vote in expanding the hours of the chat. i will think about you when i win the big one. Big Smile

now let me say please give some more hours.

Todd, First off I am new here less than two weeks. Love the site Lovies.  I always test before I buy.  I'm going to buy one of the programs today or tomorrow at the latest.  I understand your needing more participation to offer longer hours in the chat room.  Could you explain why you need more participation? Thx

Sure.  It takes a lot of two things to make this web site work:  time and money.

For the chat, the same thing applies.

If there is something like chat that very few people utilize, it becomes difficult to justify the amount of time it takes to manage it.

Also, one of the problems with chat is that the discussions are not well-suited for re-use later on.  With a forum post, anyone can come onto the forum days afterwards and get the full benefit of the discussion, but with a chat if you're not there, you miss it.

                          Thanks for explaining Todd.
                          Next question:
What are the gold stars shown under each person's avatar for? I asked someone who had 3 of them and he didn't know.

The stars denote the membership level of the person.

1 star = Standard (free) member

                            2 stars = Gold member

                            3 stars = Platinum member

                            4 stars = Forum Moderator

5 stars = Forum Administrator (me)
