The winning ticket from the $267 million Mega Millions drawing Tuesday night was sold in the northwest Ohio town of Lyons, an Ohio Lottery spokeswoman said.
The ticket was purchased at Lyons Main Stop, lottery spokeswoman Marie Kilbane told The Associated Press.
Store manager Linda Freeworth said she received the news from a radio station that called about 4:45 a.m. Wednesday. Radio and television reporters arrived soon after for interviews.
"I've never been a big time winner. People laugh because this is a small town and nothing ever happens here," she told The AP in a telephone interview.
Lyons is 26 miles west of Toledo, near the Ohio-Michigan line.
Lottery officials planned a news conference later Wednesday, Kilbane said.
Freeworth said she had not spoken with lottery officials and did not know who bought the winning ticket.
The winning numbers from Tuesday night's drawing were 2, 4, 35, 36 and 48. The Mega Ball number was 22.
In addition to the grand prize winner, 22 tickets matched all five numbers but not the Mega Ball: 4 from California, 2 from Georgia, 3 from Illinois, 2 from New Jersey, 7 from New York, 2 from Ohio, 1 from Texas, and 1 from Virginia. The winners will receive second prizes of $250,000 each.
The 4 California winners will receive $237,869 each because California prize amounts are calculated based on the amount of sales and the number of winners.
Another 134 tickets matched four numbers, plus the Mega Ball number — good for third prizes of $10,000 each ($8,109 in California).
Oh, I wish, I wish. Northern Ohio gets most of the Ohio winners. It's almost like southwestern ohio doesn't exist. Maybe next time. Congrats to the winner. Illinois won like 3 times in the first year of mega-millions for Ohio when nobody won in Ohio. That's a note for the person who said Ohio was the luckiest place.
Don't forget. Ohio lottery winners can form a trust and remain ANONYMOUS if the lawyer claims the prize on behalf of the trust.
Hi, I thought it is available in all states, I mean shouldn't everybody be able to hire a lawyer if they want to. And do you know how it works exaclty, what is the cost or disadvantages of that. thanks..
Congratulations to Ohio for winning the jackpot. If nobody had won the jackpot, the estimated jackpot for Friday would have been 331 million or an increase of 54 million [estimated]. I wonder if a group won a jackpot or an individual?

Certainly, you can create a trust, and you can hire an attorney. As to costs and advantages, it really depends on what you want to achieve. There are so many kinds of trusts.
For example, the term "blind trust" has been mentioned in this forum more than once. This kind of trust is actually good for people holding sensitive positions such as governors, senators, judges, chiefs, commissioners, etc. This is to avoid the appearance of impropriety or conflict of interest. You see, this is a trust where the trustor (creator of the trust) is in the blind as to how his assets are being managed and invested, thus the term "blind ". I wouldn't recommend this for the average individual, who wants to know and be involved in the management of his financial affairs.
quick pick suck I which they change the games just pick your number only not with quick pick so the jackpot can reach $500,000,000 or more as long there is quick pick .the true lottery player will not win. and change second prize to 250,000 to 500,000 . 80% of the winner play qick pick
Ouch! One more hurt of every months... Wishing you guys best of being fine. He (handsome Mega) will be right back big soon . You know, our wish is so luxury anyway! Look at people around the world ... Actually, I am in want , so I'm still feeling sad. I try to pray to forget it for a while . Couple weeks later we will be like this .... :jump: :jump: :jump:
I hope it's another lottery pool like the PB winners in Nebraska. Although it doesn't affect my life, I'd rather read that 5 or 10 people are new millionaires than only 1. The only reason I'd ever want to win more than $10M (cash value) is sharing would be a lot easier. If I won close to $100M after taxes, I could be very, very happy just keeping $20M of it!

Just give me the chance to prove money doesn't buy happiness!
Agree!! Anyone who says money doesn't buy happiness either is flat broke and in denial or always had plenty of it to begin with, so he has no idea what it's like to cut coupons or look for bargains on toilet paper. If I won the lottery it would be 2-ply forever! LOL

I am sure if a qp netted you a jackpot win you would not think they sucked so bad then. But it does get frustrating to dedicated lottery players to see once in a blue moon gamblers play and won via a qp. The worst is when someone already rich, such as a senator, win and only played just because the jackpot was so big. Man I hate that.

Hi Lottophene: Thank you for your word....And the luck will knock your door someday! :)
In a post before the drawing, I predicted the winner would be in Ohio in a suburb of a city, and the store name would have one or more of several words in it, including "stop".
I only have the bonus ball "22". On a (cringe) quick-pick.
Good point. Although I doubt many hoosiers went to a small town at least an hour from the closest Indiana city when there are other Ohio cities closer.
Money in itself does not buy happiness, but it provides a lot of stepping stones for the educated to grasp it.
Based on numerous news conferences, I'm not sure it is limited to the educated.
An educated lottery player/winner chooses lump sum. They avoid games like PA Unlucky for Life and the new Lose for Life.
All the winner sees is the money. They realize they can get a larger some today, then receiving a lot of smalled sums that actually add up to a larger sum. They do not avoid any games. The fact that the states makes money proves you wrong. If the state lost money, it would go away. Lottery players, for the most part, don't even know it is annuity or cash until they try to collect. They are sheep, standing line to be sheared. See money advertised, want advertised money. Basic instinct. Like sex! Not until it is over does the average person wonder if it was worth it. See Sex, want sex. See money, want money. Basic.
I am pretty sure it's someone from Michigan that won. My hometown is about 10 miles west of Lyons and everyone from the Oh bordering towns goes to Lyons to buy cigarettes. I was shocked when I heard the news, the store where is was bought was where my mom buys hers. Imagine me calling my mom at 9am and screaming for her to check her tickets..lol

Actually an educated player will make that decision when the time comes, and based on their own personal circumstances. However a close-minded player will also opt for the lump sum no matter what the pay out, or circumstance..

Education can only help for long term planning, something that Jack, and David Edwards seemed to lack. But at least we now have them as examples to learn from, and to know what NOT to do.

I don't know what it is like to to rot away from STD. Doesn't mean I'm not knowledgeable on how not to get it! The same applies to lottery winnings. You win or you don't. The winner is the O-N-L-Y one that counts, and your opion on Cash Only means zilch to that person. There are hundred of thousands, if not millions, of people living happily ever-after on the annuity from a million dollar scratch off or million dollar drawing. Some with less value. Only the rarity come forward and complain. A handfull of complainers, doesn't iimpact the happiness of an annuity winner one bit. Neither will you!

someone in lyons is probably still sleeping and unaware that their life is about to change forever.congrats to the winner....
Or it could be someone from Michigan.....
Get sweeping that ticket out from underneath the bed.
Congrats to the Winner(s)! I sure would have liked to see 2 more rolls at least. I love it when the whole country gets hyped up!
Well, I'll see what my tickets already purchased for the next 2 draws can bring. But I'll hibernate again until either PB or MM gets around $100m.
Ohio has to be one of the luckiest states out there. Amazing how Illinois hasnt won a big MM jackpot in a long time.

Yawn, Yawnnnnnn. Hmmn.
Sorry team. We went bust on this one. I'll see you back at work tomorrow.

Lyon is a real boarder city so maybe the winner is from Michigan. Can happen when the retailer is so close to a state border.
