There are many parables in the Bible. I see the story of creation like another parable. There are obviously people who accept the creation story literally, but many do not. Besides, as I understand it, the word we see translated as "day" could also have been translated as "period of time." In that case, each "period of time" could have been billions of years.
And who says there are no longer miracles? What about the cases we read about of "spontaneous remission" from cancer or other diseases? The doctors can't explain them. Statistically these don't happen often. But we have no reason to believe that "miracles," (whatever they were) happened often in Old or New Testament times, either.
People killed each other in World War I and II. They are killing each other all over the world today. And they were killing each other by the thousands in biblical times, too. So that is nothing new.
Who is to say you haven't seen an angel? Just because the artists started putting wings on angels to differentiate them from humans in their paintings, is no reason to believe that angels really have wings. It is my belief that angels look strangely like . . . other human beings.
Amen,
I will believe Darwin's Theory the next time I see an ape evolve into a human being right before my very eyes LOL!
Evolution: A gradual process in which something changes into a different and usually more complex or better form! Hummmmm then why are not apes still changing into better form (human)? Evolution is supposed to keep going! Evolution is not occurring anymore? Darn and I really wanted to see that ape turn into a human!
You are exactly right miracles do happen now! I knocked at deaths door with a disease doctor's label orphan: no known cure no known cause! I am completely free from the disease, so I would call that a miracle indeed! Man could not save me, I could not save myself so who did? Devin Intervention Did! I am blessed beyond measure, I have got to see many miracles happen, I have seen scanned tumors in a persons body, and 2 weeks later nothing done medically to the tumor saw another scan of the tumor mass completely Gone! Yes the doctors were amazed too!
Angels are all around us and we all have them! Some call them guides and you are correct they do not look, as artists perceive them too!!

I'm not trying to be negative, but realistic.
I'm so tired of people making believe that they have the answer.
Religious people have this notion that they know the secrets of the universe, but can't cure the common cold.
They believe the earth is only about 6 to 10 thousand years old, depending on who you speak with. That's a good one.
They believe there just has to be a reason why the world changing miracles don't stop by and say hello once in a while. I'm not talking about a healing of one person or two or a bunch. I'm talking something on the scale of the parting of the sea. Don't worry, you won't see one. He's been on a vaction for a long time, and I think he's got an extended stay at the Diamond Head in Hawaii.
The brain is not just a thinking machine. It's also a machine that can alter the body's state of health, depending on what signals it gives. In my opinion most, most of the people who get healed did it to themselves, by believing they are healed and chemistry of the body and brain fix the problem. Euphoria will set in motion chemicals like Dopamine and other highs and healing liquids.
Most people think they know the power of the brain. But unfortunately, most don't. The brain has the capabilty to do wonders, including critical thinking.
It's such a funny and sad state.
God gives a person the ability to think, evaluate, re-evaluate, make decisions, make choices, have free will, but when it comes to self-reflection with a total un-bias view, which by the way is another trait he bestowed upon man, somehow all of a sudden, he can't utilize it. WHY?
DOES THAT MAKE SENSE?
You have the gift of discernment, but can't use it when it comes to the question of your origins. GOD forbid I should ask? All of a sudden....HOW DARE YOU QUESTION? EVEN THOUGH I GAVE YOU THE ABILITY TO QUESTION. That's a red flag.
I consider myself spiritual not religious. But again that spiritual part can just be a product of the amazing brain. There is not one person in this world who can prove to me feelings and a fuzzy reaction in the chest, can be supernatural. On the other hand, I can't prove it's because of the brain. We're both on the same boat. The only difference is that I have the freedom to use my noodle. Not to just follow the most poular fad religion or belief system.
If I had the time and inclination, I could spend a few hours typing in the many possible explanations and PROOF of an alternate origin, other than a RELIGOUS ONE.
I know, I can hear it. Faith. If you only have faith you'll succeed.
Faith is only good as some kind of preface. You need something to go on.
A good example is if a young boy or girl is stuck in a balcony, and the apartment behind him or her is on fire. The fireman asks the kid to jump into the net from the 3rd story apartment, but the kid refuses because he or she dosen't recognize the voice, or trust it.
Next, the kid hears the father calling out, recognizing the voice, looking down and seeing the DAD below. He reassures the kid to jump, and he does, because he or she had faith in their dad. They knew from past experiences that he always came through. The kid had something to go on.
All I have to go on is 500 different religions and points of views, each arguing what way is the correct way. I'm so sick and tired, that it actually makes me physically sick, just to even think about the child like fights over land, ideals and a myriad of other reasons to fight and argue over the truth, which none posseses. It's pathetic.
You can't have it both ways. You can't say, "I believe in what I believe", whatever it is, and then in the same breath say, "I don't want to hear the scientific view".
Radio Carbon Dating is relatively reliable. But it dosen't have to be 100 percent accurate, because it's dealing with eons anyway, or a round about figure of 10 years or so. All that it needs to prove is that an object is so and so old within a parameter that goes way back than 10 thousand years old.
I'm going to end this with the only proof I have. And that's the age of the earth. In my opinion, this is the only single, undeniable proof of information that can dispell the time-lines stated in certain beliefs.
The hubble telescope dosen't lie. It can see 15 billion light years back. The light took 15 billion years to get here. The earth and the universe is not 10 thousand years old. That's a fact. Yes the Ice ages happened in a few thousand years, but the cycles of the ages went on for millions. The list goes on.

I just thought of a good challenge. The challenge is to ask me one question. The question will have to do with just about anything related to proof, and I will have a reasonable answer.

OK! So you, like so many others, have theologized at some length but where is your proof - as defined in the dictionary, "1. evidence sufficient to establish a thing as true or believable. 2. the act of testing for truth, efficiency, or believability. ..." ?
Meanwhile, it has been said that the proof of the pudding is in the eating, so let us return to theorising a jackpot win in the lottery.

You are absolutely correct my friend. The only reason I started this topic in this forum and not my blogs, was because, for some reason there isn't as much feedback in the blogs, as there is in the forums.
I was taking a risk at the beginning, not knowing if Todd would move it somewhere or delete it. It was a selfish act on my part, I know.
As to the your first paragraph, I must say this.
I'm just observing my surroundings with a non-partisan, objective, and un-biased view. You want proof? You got it.....LOL
1: The universe is not a mere few thousand years old. That's a fact. What is the fact you ask? Good question.
Because of it's distance, the sun's light takes about 8 and half minutes to reach your eyes. So if the sun exploded, you wouldn't know it for 8 and a half minutes.
Now we definitely know that the universe is ATLEAST 8 and a half minutes old. Then we look a little farther out into space and see an object like a neighboring star, bigger and farther out. Let's say 10 years. I say ten years because that's how long it took the light from that star to reach your eyes. It's called 10 light years. At the speed of 186,000 miles per second, it still took 10 years to reach your eye. Now we definitely know the universe is ATLEAST 10 years old.
Next, we look at our nearest galaxy, like the Andromeda galaxy or the "M" class galaxies nearby. Those numbers of light years run in the millions and billions. We're no longer dealing with minutes or decades. We are now talking eons.
I think the Andromeda is about 2.3 million light years from the earth. That means, the light from the Andromeda galaxy took 2.3 million years to reach your eye. Your looking back in time. The light you see is what was happening 2.3 million years ago.
Now we definetly know that the universe is ATLEAST 2.3 million years old. Do you see where I'm going with this? Should I continue with the gallaxies that are BILLIONS of light years away?
2: Both humans and chimpanzees share 97 percent of the same DNA.
3: Why do men have nipples? Since GOD is omnipotent, he does not make mistakes. What happened?
4: God is omnipotent, and knows the future. But still allows the demise of the human race, according to the bible's narrow entry into heaven, to follow through it's course, is to me, a mind boggling thought. Even if you say that he dosen't know the future, he still has the ability to know what outcomes happen, given random circumstances.
He knows that about 80 to 90 percent of humanity will not enter his kingdom, because of the multi-billions of people on this earth, presently, and the combined history, that have a different belief system such as muslim, or a Jewish faith or whatever. Buddist...etc....They will burn forever in HELL because they didn't believe that Jesus Christ was their savior. Please give me a break.
If I asked you to buy stock in a company that I definitely knew that there was an 85% chance of going bankrupt and I told you it would go bankrupt,, would you still buy shares? If you or anyone else in their right mind wouldn't start the company, how can you accept it, that an Almight God would, create a universe knowing most of his creation will end up screwed. that's if there is a GOD. And if there is a GOD, would he do such a stupid thing?
5: The story of Adam and Eve is strange to me.
How can you possibly blame Eve for taking a bite of the apple. According to scripture, both Adam And Eve had no awarness of right and wrong. It was until the serpent opened Eve's eyes. Which means, the story is flawed. Even though GOD commanded her not to eat of the fruit of that particular tree, how can she be smitten down by GOD? She never learned right and wrong. GOD intended it that way, according to the bible. It was supposedly meant to follow guidelines, and living with the word, as opposed to try to figure it out yourself. That's a great concept if you ask me. I really don't care how an engine works, as long as the engine in my car takes me to work in the morning.
So it goes that the Devil enticed Eve to be like GOD. Eyes opened to the ways of creation 101, so to speak. You no longer have to adhere to strict rules, that you couldn't even comprehend before. An Oxymoron. But now, she can make decisions and think for herself. Looks like GOD invented brain washing...LOL
So now what does GOD supposedly do?
He condemns all humanity because of one person. That's just great! Billions of humans are going to suffer and die, and go to a lake of fire, gnashing their teeth, forever and ever, and weren't suppose to if everything went on without a hitch, and lived happily ever after. But it didn't.
If you ask me, that sounds like a crazed lunatic to me. Do you really believe an entity like the creator of the universe would act like that?
6: Whenever a group or a person says they have inside information, that their way is the absolute, on any subject, not just religion, but any topic, a red flag goes up.
I respect everyone's beliefs here at the LP. This was just my eight and a half cents......LOL

So let me get this straight. The countless billions of Buddhists, muslims, Jews and all the rest in between, who don't subscribe to that story will be tormented in hell for eternity.
I'm sorry, but that sends a big red flag my way. Every religion can't be right. And each of them claim they have the inside scoop on how to enter heaven, if their is such a thing, or hell for that matter.
Again, whenever I hear any group or individuals claim to know absolutely, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that their belief is the only way, it scares me.

No Pac actually it's all made up earth is a penal colony and we are it's prisoners. Placed here eons ago by an alien race. At some point a great escape was made and each tribe went it various ways. They took with them a story of a higher power each tribe then concocted it's own religious belief's based on the story around the great being. Then when governments were formed they used the beliefs to control the masses. Does this sound more plausible.

I don't know what the story is, and the best part is, I don't claim to know what the answer is.

What in Tar Nation does that have to do with:
The price of tea in China?
Lottery algorithms? (or is your algorithm based on the position of Andromeda Galaxy?)
Eliminating computerized drawings? (Which I agree with)
Guitar playing?
and where in the Bible does it say "The earth was created on the date of..."? Some guy on the radio a while back tried to use that to calculate the end of the world to occur - 12 years ago!
(but such debate is outside the scope of Lottery Post)
NOTE: you spelled "inundated" wrong.
Actually, the price of tea in China has been in a bullish market. About a buck two 38 per pound. ....... .........LLC.......LIL' Abner rabbit...Lyle...LOL

Hi PAC:
Seems obvious to me why human life exists and what it's all about. The entire process of evolution was for the purpose of developing someone to look at television, football, and to be a customer base for lottery tickets.
Man was invented by random numbers looking for a nesting place, potential television sets and etherial football helmets.

Hey Rip and Luckiestarr. Luckiestarr: My limo dosen't have high-test gas. Just the local galaxies.
Rip: Good to see you again. You're right. What it boils down to is meatballs and spaghetti. LOL
Is that what we'll do in heaven? Play backgammon and tell sea stories?
