Thanks to the third world style corruption in WA state it is now a class C felony to gamble on the internet. THis includes sports, poker, lottery and all other gambling. It is NOT limited to those who run gambling sites but anyone ordering from betslips or any customer of gambling sites as well. We have a big problem in this state with Tribal casino's bribing state legislature members and it looks like all those bribes paid off. I'm sick of living in a third world style corrupt state.

I'm just wondering what others think of this.

You can find out more from the corrupt officials at  www.wsgc.wa.gov

To bad recieving bribes and other payments from tribal casino's aren't felonies but why would they arrest themselves.

Just wondering what others on the board think of this.

I think it's a horrible idea. I guess this is going to help other states wanting to pass regulations like this in their area.

I think Americans have a little more freedon than do people in some other countries, but I think we are losing more and more as time goes by. Especially after the 911 tragedy. I think we should fear the people in office in Washington moreso than the terriorist. And American citizens still think they have constitutional rights too. America has been in "state of emergency" since around 1913, thus effectively bypassing the constitution and giving way too much power and authority to our commander in cheif. I prefer to call him something else which I won't repeat here. I don't buy into those lies in the media, I try not to watch the media.  All I can say is America was sold out many years ago, yet you will never hear the truth in the wealthy elite controlled media. People need to wake up and be aware of whats really going on behind the scenes.

Making it a law is one thing, trying to enforce it is another. They may act tough for a little while but it will be business as usual after that. This way they get to keep the tribe happy, take their money and nothing has really changed.

It will be like them going after Napster to shut the music industry up and busting a few kids to make it look good while everybody else is getting their music from the other million sites online. You never hear about the stuff anymore either.

        I wish you the best,

If more LP members lived in WA and participated in online gambling, more would be upset. Twitch

Exactly.  Do they really think that the state law enforcement officials have time to chase down people playing lotto online?  Hardly. They are too busy trying to catch real criminals and violent offenders. They don't really have time or resources to assign many of their law enforcement people to stop their real work and work on something like this.....it's all political "feel good" legislation.

In this day and age, I wouldn't bet on anyone being too busy, after all, they make money from charging people with crimes and of course, they MUST make their examples.....I am glad I don't live in that state....I hope other states don't follow but if they do, I'll just have to quit..do they say how they are going to catch folks?  I mean there are people who bet on sports games a lot more than play the lottery..

I concur with the observation that it hits closer to home if your home is in WA. The rights of most residence are being whittled down to meager whimpers in the over all political arena. Combating the internet gambling arena may come back to bite the very folks who issued this new protocal.

Luckily laws are not written in stone and can be overturned or repealed if the voters so choose.

Well, I do live in Washington, and I'm a bit ticked off about this new law.  I've never done any online betting, but had considered it.  Since my budget for such activities would be small, any betting I would have done probably wouldn't have amounted to a hill of beans anyway, but I feel a bit like a kid who hears "no" and then wants to do the forbidden activity even more.  I probably won't do it now, though, as it just isn't worth the risk.

I don't know about it being a FELONY, that's a little extreme, but it should be illegal only because it's too easy to rig the online gaming systems to make SURE you CAN ONLY LOSE over time. LISTEN - all you people who say "Eliminate Computerized Drawings" - most of the online gaming IS COMPUTERIZED so that's why I'm against it. It's also too easy to lose a lot of money without even leaving the house! At least with the Lottery you have to go to the ELE7VEN and get some fresh air and have a fair chance.

The law should really be against the online gaming sites and their aggressive advertising campaigns.

                          LckyLary,

Be careful when supporting any law such as this that takes away your online rights.  You may personally agree with taking away this right, but once the genie is out of the bottle, and once they are given approval by the public to start taking away your rights, they will continue taking away rights, and one day they'll take away something YOU care about.  On that day you may realize that it was the result of passively letting the government gradually take control of your personal decisions and responsibility.

I think the Washington law is a horrible idea.

If I was a Washington resident I would be contacting my local representatives to let them know how angry I was about it.
