i got tired of being knocked off.i wrote about being knocked off a lot with dial up.i ordered broadband from my company AOL.was broadband the right way to go? appreciate the feedback....

with broadband i can't be knocked off still can i?
please tell me i made the right choice,lol......

Way to go! You did the right thing. You're gonna love it!! You shouldn't be knocked off. I guess it could happen in an extreme situation but I wouldn't worry about it. Just sit back now and enjoy!!

I have a Digital cable package through a small provider here in Oregon. Both the T.V. and the internet. I like it because I do not have to pay for a home phone any more. I just have cell phones. The only drawback is that once or twice a month the internet will go out for short periods of time. I take it because we live in a smaller rural area. So it works 99.9% of the month and it is worth all the enjoyment you get out of having faster service in my opinion.-weshar75

what is the difference between broadband(which i'll be getting soon) and the cable internet. i'm getting aol broadband.they say they are sending me the stuff in the mail to hook it up....

I would have suggested you considered either one of the Bell companies or a local wireless service (many have unlimited service now). AOL is rather expensive and know that the base of AOL's broadband is on the backbone of the local Bell companies. A drawback with cable, that no one will tell you is, the more people on it, the slower it can become.
In regards to it failing, yes, it can. Either due to lightening or power outage at the local service. Generally, the most I have had to do is turn the receiver off for a minute and turn it back on and everything functions fine. Also, no additional software is needed for Windows XP to work with DSL service.

I have broadband service here in small town Willamina it is through a cable modem. I know if I lived in Salem the services that they could provide would have more because they are a larger city.-weshar75

Theres a local group of girls around here that play 70's & 80's music called Broad Band.

Yep, you made the right choice. I have had broadband for close to 7 years now. Can't imagine my net access without it. The only time I get knocked off is when I physically shut down my router.

hey there snakeyes.they play 70's and 80's.make a request that they play "magic man" by heart for me,lol.i thought that a person had to come hook up this stuff.they say i hook it up myself with the stuff they are sending in the mail.thanks weshar,sir metro,lottolaugh.pacattack,snakeyes for the advice so far.appreciate it!

DSL and Cable are broadband, which is just a term for a connection with a lot of bandwidth. Setting up your own cable connection is usually pretty easy, but if you have any trouble unlimited tech support is one of the things you get for your money. If it goes smoothly it may be as simple as running a cable from the wall to the cable modem and either a USB or ethernet cable from the modem to your computer. If you don't already have a cable jack close to your computer running the cable is likely to be most of the work.

Don't worry about other people slowing down your cable connection. Unless all of your neighbors download at the same instant that you do your connection isn't likely to be the bottleneck. You'll wait for servers to send stuff, but unless you and your neigbors are downloading huge files at the same time even a mediocre cable connection is usually a lot faster than DSL.
