Today I woke up and took a shower, ate breakfast and planned to drive a few hours to visit my father in the hospital. In fact, many times I make plans and then I get on my computer and start answering emails, reading messages on sites I enjoy, often posting an answer or two, and then it's 3 hours later. Where did 3 hours go? Although today I'm not working, last week I only had Sunday to clean my home, run errands and visit people and made a pledge not to even turn on my computer. At midnight I was still playing Space Cadet Pinball, trying to break my current record of about 18 million.
Am I addicted to my laptop or am I like many people in 2006 who feel that checking email and surfing the internet or visiting your favorite site(s) is now an essential part of everyday living? How many people here put getting online on your routine to-do list? Does it have an effect on your social life, your job, your personal/family relationships? Does your wife/husband call "Honey, come to bed" and you shout "in a minute, I'm checking my lottery numbers!" Or do you hide your online activity from your family altogether? Do you get up in the middle of the night to get online? Are you reading this post in your pajamas?

I couldn't find an answer that fits me on the poll.
I'm not addicted to the internet, but I'm addicted to numbers. The internet happens to be the IV I use to get my fixes.
When I'm able to convince myself I don't need to check the results page and try backtracking some draws I can stay off the internet for a long time.
Then I come back and find I have a lot of catching up to do.
Maybe I'll quit smoking, but I think I'll keep my numbers addiction for a while.
Space Cadet? Is that something I ought to know about?

Hi JXP,
For me the Internet is like Oxygen. Can't make it without it very long.
My work is heavy internet/e-mail useage, so that's part of it, but I have to visit my favorite sites all the time to see what's up and see who is posting and/or not posting and why.
I guess you could say I'm as addicted to the net as I am to gambling and sex, but not necessarily in that order.

I admit that the internet is a big part of my life. Of course I can go without being on it, but I get a bit anxious when I can't check my email and such.

I agree with Rip. I'm not addicted to the internet but Iam addicted to numbers and Lottery Post. I started to respond to a previous thread entered by LottoMike about Todd not being able to carry on with the LP for some reason. I felt the anxiety welling up inside of me then..
I was on vacation last week. I was in Florida and had access to Internet service but didn't touch it for a whole 9 days. That's a record for me.
I won't check my Email until someone ask me if I recieved something.

Obviously I meant Oxygen. I was thinking of the ELO song.."Love is like Oxygen, you get too much you get too high, not enough and you're gonna die..."
DD - you're addicted to sex and gambling? So a "roll in the hay" might be with a pair of dice?
Litebets - I was on vacation in Costa Rica in 2001 and still went to an Internet Cafe to email my family and friends. Just one U.S. dollar for an hour or 2. Maybe if I hadn't walked by one, I would have waited until I got home, but I was pretty bored the night I stayed in Jaco.

I can't live without internet.
When I am travelling back to my old home town to visit my parents, I use my Nokia N70 for internet surfing with Opera 8.60 for Series 60 and to check email.
I've even used it to visit LotteryPost.com

lol,you correct pac.i was just fixing to point that out.i happen to like ELO better than sweet although sweet is good.who could resist strange magic,livin thing,telephone line,etc.....by the way i'm reading this next to my bed because thats where my computer is.......

I like the internet mostly for lottery. If I went on vacation, I'd miss the numbers game not the internet.

But it sure beats TV.

I am on and off everyday, even if it is only for a few minutes. But I can stay off for hours at a time as well. Can't tell you the last time I skipped at least 1 entire day though.

I voted the Internet is like oxygen. My business and group I run is on line so I have to be on the Internet everyday for hours on end.

The other day my phone line was down for 5 hours and WOW, I thought I would go mad not being able to get on. This does not happen often its really reliable any other time!
