Replaces the current Hot Lotto. Available through all 31 MUSL members. Matrixes are 5/45+1/45, which was the original Powerball game. Jackpot starts at $2 million (annuity is the same as the existing PB.) To prevent SHL from competing directly with PB, the jackpot is capped at $40 million. If still no winner, the jackpot level is rolled down to all eight lower tiers, like in Massachusetts Ca$h WinFall.

The lower tier prizes are as follows (same or higher than the original PB):

5 + 0  $100,000

4 +HB    $5,000

3 +HB        $150

4 + 0        $100

2 +HB        $10

3 + 0            $7

1 +HB          $5

0 +HB          $4

It's O.K., but it kind of defeats the purpose of Hot Lotto, which is to provide moderately high jackpots for realistic odds of winning. What they should do is make it a pick-6, or at least a 4+1.

I don't think their needs to be another Hot Lotto. All I want is for my state to be added.

So if SHL reaches $40 million [the cap], it will continue until we have a winner?

O.K. If Hot Lotto wants a realistic chance of being played everywhere Powerball is (which I don't recommend if it's going to "winfall" per se), changes need to be made. The game has to be unique, but simple, and the closest to that would be a pick-7. No other state has had a pick-7 since Maryland (which isn't even involved here) got rid of Cash In Hand. So, I developed a 7/40, which some lotto veterans will remember as the original Lotto-America matrix. I like CO's idea for a winfall feature (which is even more exciting than a big jackpot), and to change the annuity to Powerball's format (not because I like that format, but for continuity between the two games). So here it is.

HL is starting to become like the late Lotto South (matrix too small.) Of course, Virginia's 6/49 in 2001 became LS without enlarging the matrix. (It can be argued that GA-KY-VA Lose for Life itself is too small, since Lose for Life is 6/42). At some point (and probably soon,) the MUSL members offering HL, including the "state to be named later," need to change the jackpot odds, which currently are 1 in less than 11 million.

So far we can rule out PA and North Carolina as the next HL lottery. Do you suppose of all places, it will be the US Virgin Islands?

October is here, so HL will be expanding again next month. Any "hot" tips on where it will be?

CASH Only, I think HL should increase the matrix if it keeps expanding. The odds of winning a jackpot should be higher than 11 million to 1 (current).
