Regardless of who is doing it, I don't think it's too much for us to ask that they get it right.

This was their reply:

Thank you for reporting your viewing concern to the South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL).  We regret any inconvenience caused our players. All winning numbers are posted as soon as the draw results are verified and certified by an external auditor.  Our Draw Operators then verify that the numbers are viewable on the website.Thank you for your interest in the South Carolina Education Lottery.

What a load of crap that is....they stink worse than us in NC

This is actually quite upsetting, from a player's perspective, expecting attention to accuracy and transparency in customer service.

I can tell you that the response I got was different, and indicates that the response you got was incomplete.

The response I got indicated that the problem was with the person who input the results into the web database.

The response you got does not mention re-keying the data at all, which I will bet $1,000 is what happens.

They are correct about the draw taking place, and then the results being audited by a third party, but what comes after that is very misleading.  I am certain that the results are entered into at least two different database manually, rather than being input into one database, and then having that database automatically downloaded into the web database (as it should be).

If they just entered the results into one database, then all the state lottery machines would have validated the wrong result numbers when somebody scanned their tickets for winners.

If they are going to enter the numbers by hand into two databases, then each of those databases should be audited by the third party auditor, not just the one.

By playing loose with the web database they are essentially saying that it is not as important.

    Is that acceptable to you?

This is kind of what I was thinking but didn't know how to phrase it like you, Todd. To me, this is very troubling...especially since I am to trust them for anything when moving down there in a month. Is the entire gov't like this? Or just the particular $5/hr clown they hired to respond to email with no common sense? Very troubling indeed.

I am a technological moron, but I know that it would be much simpler - since I am in the database business - to just input into the input system and disseminate the data into whatever feeds it goes into (i.e., product, which in this case would be the end result or the website).

Hell, they could even load it into an API file for the auditor to look at it and then allow him/her to modify it there, hit "send", then the data is shipped as correct back to the main database and to the product feeds and/or website. Very crazy to say the least.

It just amazes me that they can make mistakes like this.  It is not rocket science, it's posting a handful of numbers and a date.

With something so simple and yet so important for accuracy, wouldn't you think they'd triple check their date and number entries and have a supervisor check those entries once more against actual draw results before publishing them?

How difficult could this process be?  I can't believe they're that busy to be harried enough to repeatedly make mistakes.

Are they hiring?  That sounds like easy money.  Kind of like a bad weatherman...it's OK to be wrong all the time.

Don't we wish we could get away with that at our jobs?

          Folks:

Remember these are state employees and they are not required to do anything correctly.

Remember also these are kissing cousins to Federal Government employees such as TSA who are more than willing to inflict terrorist protection  schemes on airline passengers after the problem has already occurred.  Most of them have never had an original thought in their lives.

Do you really think they care if they get a few lottery numbers correct?

They live up to my current thinking that all a retailer wants, is for customers to shut-up and pay.

I am not beating up on all government employees but my experience in working with many of them is that they just do not care.  Send me my paycheck and let me get out of here.

Quoting a post is very easy.

Just reply as you normally would, by clicking the Reply button that is located on the post you are replying to.

Then, place a check mark in the "Include this quoted text in your reply" checkbox.

I have included some screen grabs below of when I replied to your message and included your text, so you can see how it works.

                . . . . . . . . . . . .

Here is what it first looked like when I clicked the Reply button on your message:

                . . . . . . . . . . . .

Now look what happens when I click the "Include this quoted text in your reply" checkbox (I added the red arrow to show you where the checkbox is):

The blue background indicates that your text will be included at the top of my reply.
