Don't tell me your age; you probably would tell a falsehood anyway-but your waiter may know!

YOUR AGE BY DINER & RESTAURANT MATH
This is pretty neat.

DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST!
It takes less than a minute.
Work this out as you read ...
Be sure you don't read the bottom until you've worked it out!
This is not one of those waste of time things; it's fun.
1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to go out to eat.
(More than once but less than 10)
2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold)

4. Multiply it by 50

6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.
You should have a three digit number

The first digit of this was your original number
(ie., How many times you want to go out to restaurants in a week.)
The next two numbers are
YOUR AGE! (Oh YES, it is!!!!!)
THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2006) IT WILL EVER WORK, SO SPREAD IT AROUND WHILE IT LASTS

Well of course it works. All you did was subtract the year you were born from this year. The rest was just smoke and mirrors to make you think you were doing something other than simple arithmetic.

so next year we can change 1756 to 1757 and 1755 to 1756 to make it work out the same way.

thanks for this math trick.

It is cool true. And I don't wnat to spoil the fun. I am going to use it myself.

However since this is a Mathematics thread let's look a bit closely at the thing.

What if someone came to you and said

1. Think of the year you were born...Call it B

3. If you have not had a B-day this year subtract B from 2005.

The resulting number is your age...

It's the same thing...

For the math-inclined the formula is:

100X+2006-Y=Z

or

100X+2005-Y=Z

Where X=number of times you wnat to eat out (where  10>X>0 )

Y=Birth Year

Z=Age
