Ive been playing the lottery system for well over 10 years now and im sure ive spent plenty of money trying to hit the JACKPOT.  I have had soo many people tell me youre wasting your money and thats fine, they are allowed their opinions.  Ive had limited luck on winning money but im positive im in the red with my win-loss ratio.  I dont go way overboard and put myself in  debt.  I just have had this feeling that something really good is going to come of the lottery for me someday. When people say im NUTS for spending hard earned money on it... I say to them "i may have a 1- 35 million chance of winning, but you not playing have ZERO chance of winning. What to you say to them people who say youre Nuts and dreaming when you play the lottery?

with a prayer and 6 lucky numbers...im beach bound!

I'm with you. I have been playing since 1993 and have yet to have a big hit but I just believe I am going to win BIG one day. I know I don't have a chance if I don't try. WE are going to HIT it ONE DAY.

    Keep On Keeping On.

when i read some of the winners stories the same family and friends who told them they would never win and they were wasting their money are the same people who asked the lottery winner for some of the winnings or complained that the lottery winner was greedy and should give them more of the winnings. i have only been old enough to play for 11 years so thats how long i have been playing and i believe i will win big one day and i hear negative comments just like you hear so hang in there and you may have the same doubters asking you for part of your winnings and denying they ever told you to stop chasing your dream of winning the lottery.

I hear people saying you'll never hit that jackpot and become a millionaire, and i say "i got as good of a chance as any other player".  I figure if i miss the jackpot at least i tried. Its better than a defeatist attitude of "ill never win". I like what the New York state lottery pitch use to say "all you need is a dollar and a dream".  Maybe if everyone tried that, there would be frequent jackpot winners because of increased betting. If you got a dollar to spend for a beer...why not spend a dollar for a chance at millions...makes sense to me!

this site has had a few topics where we discussed people who tell lottery players they are wasting money but those same people will spend money on tobacco products, candy or junk food. its america so we can all spend our money the way we want but id rather take a shot at millions buying a lottery ticket instead of putting something into my body to hurt my health.

For the most part I simply don't discuss the lottery with my friends and relatives, since I know most don't play and most consider it a waste of money.  But what would I say if challenged?

"I don't play golf.  I don't go bowling.  I don't have country club fees.  I don't go to casinos.  I don't spend money on DVDs or movies and no longer spend it on season tickets to the opera.  I buy a few lottery tickets once in a while and think I get my entertainment value for the money from just thinking briefly about what I'd do with all those millions.  And that changes from time to time.  Helps me see how my priorities are changing.  I know the chances of striking the big one are remote, but even if I don't win big, I've had my entertainment for my money.  And I do have that remote chance of striking it big, which country club fees never provides."

I think everyone that buys a ticket hopes to hit the "Jackpot".................and I know that people go through stages...........they may hae tried the Lottery and found it boring, or they may not have tired it yet........

I never really "believed" that normal people win until my oldest Son bought 1 easy pick for the Mega Millions and won $5,000, and  a few weeks later a co-worker scratched his way to $250,00 with an "instant ticket"...........

that caught my attention...but I never talk to people about playing the Lottery unless they start the conversation...and they seem to be a "believer"....no time or energy for the negative stuff.

I'm happy with any win................but the "Jackpot" would be Great!

I rarely discuss my lottery purchases with other people.  I used to, but I realized it serves no purpose.  Anyway, if I finally do win a big jackpot, there won't be as many people calling me up and asking "was it you?"

Interesting - when I saw the subject of this thread  NON BELIEVERS  I thought it was about God and religion.  So that makes me wonder if winning the lottery has become more important to a lot of people.

I don't deal with it. No one but my wife knows I am playing the lottery. The store clerks won't even remember me, I used to buy my ticket once a month, now I buy 20 draws in advance. My $20 bucks will be good for more than 2 months (yeah I am not an asset to the lottery). I buy from different outlets (nothing superstitious- I buy wherever convenient), usually at gas stations.

I say the same thing, you must play to win! However, since purchasing a lotto software I went from playing roughly $5.00 twice a week; with more $$$ when the JP was huge, to averaging far more with the software generated wheels. So I can see where people will get the impression you are spending to much money. I have very little debt, my children are well cared for, and I have a nice career. I play because its a challenge to beat the system, and the payoff---well you know. The Mega Millions is well over 163 annuity and 98.4 cash-value for the next drawing, if I am the lucky winner, the JP amount will have returned all of my winnings played to date. I feel the lotto is just as risky as the stock market where my 403b is invested in, this year's performance has only been 4%Crying, and there is only 16 days left for 2007.  SO the odds of winning and my 403b performance can be argued both ways!!! Good Luck on Tuesday everyone!!!!!!!!!!

A few years ago, billionaire Warren Buffett advised  "Investors should remember that excitement and expenses are their enemies. And if they insist on trying to time their participation in equities, they should try to be fearful when others are greedy and greedy only when others are fearful."

I've never had anyone tell me I was nuts for playing the lottery. I suppose if they did, I would tell them where to go. Wink However, I have had people say they can't wait for me to share when I win. It tends to be people who barely know me. Roll Eyes

It's very true that if you don't play, you can't win, but for me the odds are just too rediculous to take it seriously. Occasionally I'll play a couple of bucks, but I'm not sitting around basing my life around some extreme and remote possibility of breaking such enormous odds. The odds are the reality...period. If I could pick a straight in the p-3 game, which has only a 1000 to 1 odds, once a week playing only 5 bucks a day in cost, I would then say I have a knack for picking numbers and try a shot at the big one. Until then, the roof over my head has a much better chance of falling on my head while I'm watching television.....seriously. In Florida, the lightning capital of the world, there is about a one in 5 million chance of getting struck by lightning. The odds in the Florida lotto is about one in 53 million.

I love when a lot of the people who play for the big one always say..."Well, someone wins just about every drawing". They easily forget that millions of losing tickets get thrown in the basket for that one person to win.
