To complicated as far as I am concerned . Read too many bad tale about group wins.

I just purchased my 28th pool. We have pools with 4, pools with 10, one with 13...
The book work takes a little time, however, the amount of tickets bought would be more than I would spend alone.
Hopefully something will occur worth mentioning in 2008...

I know alot of people prefer one!!!!..me on the otherhand..I would prefer to play powerball in a group..There are just to damn many combinations to try and hit that thing with 5 or 10 bucks of numbers you picked yourself or using quick pics..I voted between 5 and 10..

Maybe 10 persons for pick-6. After all it is possible to buy ten tickets (enough to cover 3if3 of 10).

Any number of people in a lottery pool is fine as long everyone is agreeable about the amount of money each contributes.
Personally, if the pool isn't buying more tickets then I usual buy on my own, I not interested in it. For example I'm not interested in being in a pool that buys $5 worth of tickets, I would rather buy that many tickets on my own.

I am too greedy to want to share, but I guess I could do 2-3 people for powerball if they were my closest friends or family. It would also be a few less people that would be asking me for money after I won.

I only play alone. I have no desire to play with others, but I suppose if the pool were for something like Powerball or Mega Millions I would think that 5 to 10 people would be ideal.

I said the best group is between 5 and 10 ..my reasons why...
First of all it is not bad to join a pool ...all them people who said one i understand why you said it ...i do both ...my $5 bucks buys 10X tickets and the office pools don't play until jackpot is $50 mill or more so even if you share chances are you be a millionaire..c'mon now that makes sense..after work i'll stop and buy my own $10 tickets just for the fun of it....
NOW ...it has been my experience that people will not spend more than $10 on lottery when in pool.....the typical amount has been $5 bucks per person ... typical office being 10 people who decide to join...
so the amount of tickets bought is ~$50 ... The games played in office pool are either Powerball, Megamillions or PICK 5....Most pools dont play until jackpot is past $50 millions (for Pick 5 i would imagine they would play twice a week when it is ~$200,000 or higher)
So the best bet is between 5 and 10...it offers the optimum between a good amount of tickets bought and good sharing ...my opinion...

I like the answer "1" but since I haven't won much, maybe there is power in the larger numbers. So for me the answer would depend on the rules of the pool. I think everyone should be allowed to play if it's a pool at work, as long as they follow the rules. However, I like playing my own numbers and I wouldn't want to share my personal prize money outside of the pool. That is the only way I would ever join a pool. If 10 people pitch in $5 each, then only those 50 combinations shared by the group win money for the pool.

Like most people here, I usually play solo unless there is a large jackpot, then maybe we might take a collection and all pitch in a few dollars each. Since people are always in and out of the office at any given time, and supposingly if we had won, I just KNOW someone would complain and say 'hey..I wanted to pitch in too, I want my share !' ..then a long legal battle would ensue. Even pitching in with family can be just as ruthless... I had this discussion a few months back with family on if we won, what would we do .. and already the nightmare started... I'm glad we didnt win on that draw. It's like they were trying to dictate how they were going to control the money as if we had already won! ..thanks , but no thanks... Solo for me when playing MY numbers.
