Stores that have sold a jackpot winner hope you will believe that because it will increase their sales. If you ever find a store that sells a lot of jackpot winners then you might start buying your tickets there and see what happens.
The stores I avoid are the one that when you have a $200+ winner will inform you that they don't carry that kind of cash and you will have to come back when the owner is in or take your ticket elsewhere to cash it.
There is a store in Vancouver Wa that has sold the most winning lottery tickets of any store in the state - 7 of them including a MM jackpot. Now the "explanation" for that is the store is the closest one to Oregon so lots of Oregonians drive across the river to buy their tickets there. Well that is true but there are other stores selling tickets very close by and this particular store is (with apologies to the very nice folks who work there) really a dump - grungy, falling apart at the seams, local hangout for many of the streetpeople! So why then did the Wa state lottery folks go in a couple of years ago and "up grade" the computer terminals (no they were not upgrading all equipment across the state at the time)? This store has not sold a winning ticket for a jackpot since then. And if there is no basis in fact for believing that one machine is luckier than another machine .... why do casinos take out slot machines that have hit a jackpot? I, for one, suspect that there is more to it than just doing routine maintenence. Machines have ideocyncracies :p at least mine do. I am glad that in Oregon I can use a do-it-yourself machine cuz I talk to it :) , pat it ... if the machine I'm using to buy tickets for a particular draw decides (LOL) that today it is going to be generous and reward it's usual players ... well I want to be on good terms with that machine .... and do not want some clerk's "karma" getting in the way of my own.

Refer to my post in these topics. At the one store I go to I seem to get a lot of sequential numbers and duplicates if I pick some of my own.
I have noticed that with Powerball if I pick a couple of my own lines and let the terminal pick the other 3 plays on a $5 ticket, the terminal will duplicate some of the numbers that I picked on my tickets in the QP lines. However, if I pick my first line of the Multiwin Lotto game (that is what they call it here in DE. In PA it is known as "Match 6" and in Maryland it is known as "Multimatch". They are all the same game but with different ball totals to select from. A few other states have a 5 out of 5 game that works the same way), the terminal will not duplicate more than 1 or 2 of the first line numbers on the next 2 lines. The terminal program is designed to limit the amount of number duplications on the 2 lines the machine picks because that is how one can win more prizes. In order to win more prizes in these games, the 3 lines all go together as a unit to determine your prize winnings. Those reading this who live in the states that have this type of game will know what I mean. You don't have to get even 3 numbers on one line to win. You have to get at least 6 of the winning numbers spread out over the 3 lines to win in that fashion. You will win multiple prizes if your ticket qualifies. For example, you might get 4 numbers on one of the 3 lines, and 2 of the winning numbers, one each on the other two lines. This would give you 6 winning numbers on the 3 lines and let you win the 4 of 6 prize, plus the 6 matched numbers prize. One of the biggest prizes to be won is to get 10 of the winning numbers throughout the 3 lines. To do so will assure several different prize wins with one of them being a large prize. One might ever have all 6 numbers on one line for the jackpot, plus 4 other numbers on the other 2 lines so that the winner would get the Jackpot plus the $1,000 prize (thats what this prize is in DE). But by controlling the terminal output as they due with the "controlled" randomness, the lottery can control the overall amount of winning tickets for each draw. I have calculated this several times here in DE and it always comes out pretty much a 50-50 split for the "payout" and the "take". To me...so far ....this is the closest lottery game I've seen that uses "slot machine" technology to take the player's money.

I often wondered if they were generated right then and there, or if they are spit out of a line of pre-made random numbers already made up at each terminal. If thats true, I can see where some places might have better luck then others. I also wonder if its the same with scratch tickets. Some areas have much better chances of seeing the moolah. I try when I can to buy in the larger cities when I'm there, and I have had better luck. I just may try that website random picker after all. :)
As far as buying a QP goes, it is all luck....having the winning numbers drawn match your ticket. One story that has gone around her in Delaware for as long as I can remember (I've lived here since 91) was about a very large lotto jackpot won in PA a few years before 91. A local guy that lived her worked in PA and he and his co-worker were standing in line to buy their tickets for the big PA drawing. His friend stepped out of line a little to talk to a girl, and the local guy moved ahead and got his tickets. He won the $30 or $40 million jackpot. The story goes that it would have been his friend had he not stepped out of line. But I don't know if that would have been the case as thousands of tickets are being printed in a matter of seconds throughout a large state like PA. Most likely the winning ticket could have been sold clear across the state that night. A further story goes that this same guy moved to Florida and won another large lotto jackpot there. I don't know if that is the case or not, thought I remember reading in Lottery Players magazine years ago about a Colorado man who won two $4 million lotto jackpots there and then moved to Florida and won again there.

I've often wondered if, it would make a difference when you buy quick picks. Say your buying 20, you buy them all at one place at one time, but what if you decided to buy them at 4 different locations at different hours of the day, or something like that. Have any of you tried anything like that, with any success?

I'm not sure if it makes a difference or not, though I have changed my technique to see if I get any better numbers than I was getting. For the longest time I was buying QP's at my towns only grocery store Food Depot. I noticed that alot of the lines were repeating...either by white balls or the mega ball. I was a bit annoyed, but once managed to get a higher win because 2 of my 5 lines had 5 as the megaball, so made a few extra $. So sometimes they can work with you. But I decided to try and get away from those repeats by buying singles....and ran into a worse problem.....numbers right after another...2,22,45,46,47.....5,18,33,34,35...etc. I haven't had any luck with those, so I'm going back to my $5 QP tickets and see what happens. I'm also going to try and buy from the small gas stations a bit more. I may even try MM websites "random picker" and write them down. Just like stores QP, but I guess I have a bit more control over what I get handed. No one won last nights MM (now 25m). Hopefully this baby makes it to 100m before someone hits........my bet? I see N.J hitting. I don't ever see my poor Wa. lol I know...think positive.........i shall try.
