Would you be angry? Suppose the jackpot was $400 million (plausible, considering the record is $390) and you discovered that you won, but so did five or six others.

Or suppose that the lottery numbers from LOST won, and as a result you had to share that jackpot with 100,000 people.

Talk about a nightmare.

I wouldn't mind sharing a jackpot with three or four others but not 100,000. I also would never play the numbers from Lost either.

What if you win a million dollars ?

A dollar a year for a million years.

Personally, I wouldn't be angry sharing it with a hundred thousand folks. Maybe we ALL needed a few hundred bucks at the time. Wink

At 400 million I'd just be happy I won.... Though the greedy side of me would probably be bummed out if it was split more than three ways at least until I got the check. I'd make a game out of being the one who ends up actually richer and wealthier than the others. If I won a 50 million JP and had to split it with 10 people it'd really put a cramp in whatever plans I would have for it. Though, still that'd be a million or two more than what I have now. Though I know when I dream of winning I don't imagine it being a split JP, I doubt anyone does. Yeah, I'm a greedy <snip> when it comes to my ideal jackpot win. Evil Smile

Shoot, at $400,000,000, I wouldn't care if 10 people won. Of course, with MM and PB, that isn't very likely to happen, given the odds of the game. There's always the possibility a few others will win the jackpot, but not many.

          Gonna win.Big Smile

Put another way which is more likely....... Suppose the jackpot was $400 million (plausible, considering the record is $390) and you discovered there were five or six winners and none of them were you.  Would you be angry?

for one thing, people who play in pools are automatically in that situation, aren't they?

Personally, I would be glad others won along with me for that kind of amount.....potential can of worms here, but I don't think any individual needs $400,000,000.

I'd be glad others won also, and I'd also be glad I wasn't getting all the publicity (if I couldn't remain anonymous).

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any.

                Lep

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

yeah hitting any jackpot would make me happy. Having said that tho, i would feel a little sad say hitting the jackpot the week following the  all time record goes off. like collecting $15 mill a week after it went for $400 mill.  only a little sad, and it wouldnt be any sort of serious melancholy.

not with 15 mill comming my way, but id always bee thinking, what could have been lol.

That reminds me of a question. Suppose there was a $400 mil jackpot and you had one winning ticket and somewhere across the country 9 people won in an office pool bearing one winning ticket. Would you be splitting it ten ways or do you get half of the jackpot, while the other 9 have to split the other half nine ways?

ermm yeah, it would be  1 18th of the jackpot for ea of them;  and 9 /18ths for you. just to clear things up.

I wouldnt mind sharing at all, a win is a win...If get mad about having to share then you might be a little greedy.  If you win more than you currently have in your bank account then it should be a happy time...im going to share regardless when i win...just the people who partake in my winnings wont know where it came from ;-)

I wouldn't mind either. It would be better to win something then nothing at all.

                              we had a game here with 5 of the 6 being divisable by 5, i e 5 10 25 30 35 42 or soemthing like that.

it was an ordinary pot and 40 people won a share in it.  getting like $6k ea.  there was much talk around here about how much it would suck, but also comments that not getting anything would suck more.  yeah i was in that draw and got nothing.  and the winners did get $6k more than me.
