Sorry if this one has been done before but would you rather see the big jackpots ranked by Cash or annuity on the LP WW JP chart?

Advertising a jackpot with the annuity amount is blatant false advertising.

I disagree. The annuity amount isn't just some made up number; it is an actual prize of the game. It exists and that is what was chosen to be advertised. Both Powerball and Mega Millions have the cash value on their official websites.

Why not both, and the ability to sort it by both.

Then why not advertise an annuity paid over a billion years?  Then they can advertise any amount they want.

90% of people take the cash value.  That is what should be advertised.  Essentially, the lottery is saying, we are going to take YOUR winnings and invest it this way.  Why should they have the right to invest your winnings?

Advertising a jackpot with the annuity amount is blatant false advertising.

Advertising annuity amounts of the top prize is not only done with lottery jackpots but also in contests like those held by Publisher Clearing House and Reader Digest.

Admittedly it's can be confusing but it's not false.  For example the present PowerBall jackpot is advertised as being larger than the MegaMillions jackpot but the cash value of the MegaMillions jackpot is actually larger but every website that advertises those jackpots also show their cash value.  Knowint that, it's up to the jackpot winners to decide if they want the cash to invested in their own way or allow the lottery to invest it for them and pay them an annual check over the period of the annuity.

The custom seems to be an American tradition and not done in other parts of the world.

I absolutely agree, particularly because Powerball hypes its smaller jackpot by time graduation of the annuity.     Mega pays equal installments.

The annuities are, I note, invested in government securities which may not be worth a dime in 30 years.

With the higher odds, the Powerball jackpot has the lowest expectation value ever.
