with about both semi-high, we could  have 2 large jackpots in no time at all come along

jackpots already startin to roll the high 100 range

throwing gas on the fire of these jackpots come feb with  all these new states and we could see these 100m range jackpots pop up to 300 in notime at all,

what you guys think

will mm and pb both roll, and how long you think they can keep rolling

am hoping for new records this year, and i be happy if right form the get go we could set records on jackpot growth this year due to all the players

some people think it be won faster, am much more intrested how fast this thing can  sky rocket to the top in a blink of a eye

I'm waiting to see if MM rolls tonite and if so by how much. Normally it would increase from 144M to about 168M. I'm wondering how high the next jackpot will be...

I'm wondering about that, too.  I don't know if it's rolled yet, but in the drawing video John Crow said it would go to 168 if there's no winner, which, as you said, is a normal increase.  Maybe they don't yet know how to model the expected ticket sales and increases in jackpots, since the circumstances are quite different.  Having both games expand this much, and competing in the same states, is different from adding one state where only that game is played.  I'll be interested in whether the jackpot increases before the next draw if it isn't won tonight.

And I'll be buying a Powerball ticket Sunday  Wink

sorry newcomers mega millions was hit tonight for 144 million no new state will get the big one shich is a good thing I don't think it woulda been fair for a new state to get it right away. I'm hoping powerball gets hit so a newcomer doesn't have a chance at it.

Mega Millions Jackpot Winner!  There was one $144 million jackpot winner from Texas

              you mega million states,

we the powerball states Would of  get you a decent pb jackpot to start with,

but you failed on your End of the deal mega millions scum

,  f it, the deal off,  where winning pb tonite, you guys will get nonething!

              jk aside,

i wanted 2 high jackpots, oh will, we see how fast mm can roll form its starting jackpot with all lthe new players, maybe it only take half as long to get back up to 144m

am bit suprised people like cat wanted states who didnt help it grow to its current levels winning, Oh

but you have to remb, more people people play the higher it gets,

so it be like saying you want only the people who played during like  12m jackpot  and keeped  growing it to, all the new comers that come along during 100m, 200m mark,  but i must tell you, its them new players coming during the 100m mark 200m so forth, that make it grow to records

want to bet the jackpot winner in taxes was more likly someone who noticed the high valve of the jackpot and just buyed a few tickets to win, and never helped it grow

to think its only "fair" for anyone to get it right away is a bit crazy thinking,

my point is its like saying its not "fair" for the new players that join to play the high jackpot to win it over the people who helped got it that high form the start,

the word 'fair" should not even BE talked about in lotto games this big,     a bit silly to say someone winning it or not is "fair"

If I don't win PB, I would gladly take the starting MM jackpot, and you wouldn't hear any complaining from me. lol

I'm sure this is out there somewhere, but I haven't seen it yet.  When I saw the pretty new maps on the Powerball and Mega Millions sites, showing most of the states playing each game, I wanted to see the new population figures.  The previous figures were pointed out in news stories, but I haven't seen the new ones.  I made a chart, using the Census web site figures, except for the Virgin Islands, for which I used CIA Factbook figures, and calculating the totals.

Anyway, it's late, and I've had a few adult beverages, so I can't guarantee my numbers, but here's what I found:

The columns didn't hold up very well in pasting, but it's readable.  "T" is total, and I hope I got all the state abbreviations correct (I used my memory rather than the maps.

It appears Mega Millions still has the population advantage because of California.  I'm not sure how California would handle Powerplay, since prizes have to be pari-mutuel.

I'm not going to look this up now, but (assuming my figures are somewhat accurate) I'm interested in how many other lotteries have a quarter of a billion residents and potential players.
