Are there any numbers you are haunted by?

When I was a kid my baseball idol was Jim Gentile of the Orioles. In 1961 he had a heck of a year, (yeah, I know, I'm dating myslef here), batted .302 and had 46 HR and 141 RBI. Over 40 HR and a .302 batting average is always outstanding, along with 141 RBI, a great year. Of course that year this was all overshadowed by Maris and Mantle, but Norm Cash of the Tigers took the batting title with a .361 average.

Well, the next year Gentile batted .251 and I had a friend in school who always said, "Two fifty-one" after that when we talked baseball. (I was an Oriole fan in North Jersey, Yankee territory, so you can imagine. If I had a nickdel for everytime someone said Clete Boyer was a better 3B than Brooks Robinson....)

So anyway, for me 251 is one of those kind of numbers.

450 is another. I remember applying for a bunch of jobs once and no matter what the line of work, it was $450 a week. And a lot of rents were $450 a month.

Another is 17. We have a friend we play MM with and he always plays 17. If you track lotto it's amazing how often it seems to hit. Of course, one number doesn't pay.

So what numbers haunt you?

Maybe we can create a few "LP Haunted Numbers" tickets out of this!

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any.

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

Let's add that anyone who has ever hit 5 + 0 in a 5 + 1 game, or 5 of 6 in a Pick 6, or 4 of 5 in a Pick 5 will forever be haunted by the one number that didn't hit.

I have that experience Coin, with the number 976

It is a number that I just love, it began when my friend's mother was going to Israel to donate money to plant trees, she asked me did I wanted her to Plant one in my name and I said Yes, she did.

When she brought back the Certificate for my tree;  it had the Number 976,  ever since, I get that number very frequently if  I am waiting to be served at a take out ...when they give me the ticket, Yep 976 or 679!  I love that number, we have a thing going on.

I also like 711. The number 10 also follows me. Okay let me stop before I begin to sound like pumpi76

forget what "they" say about youWhat you say about you?...

        Now, does it count??

I used to like it - I've been waiting for it here in PA and it is just nowhere for the longest time.

That was a very good hit on it WTG!!

When I was a kid about 4 or 5, some adult relative at a family gathering asked me and my little cousins and brothers what our lucky numbers were. I remember it like it was yesterday. All the other kids said 3 or 7. I said 4 without hesitation. I don't know why but it felt natural and that's been my lucky number ever since.

My b/day numbers have never held any significance for me but I've always liked 17, 21, 32 and 67 for some reason I can't explain.
