I guess if it were me....

I'd have to win first. What are the odds?

Then would I be able to claim anonymously or not?

If I was required to go public....the only people I would trust would be my parents and brother... work out some kind of an arrangement where they would claim, set up an entity that would allow the assets to be shielded and I could share the wealth.

If it were anonymous, I would get the divorce over with, claim with a trust and work out some arrangement to payoff the mortgage, car payments and any cc balance. Perhaps an offshore trust?

Can a trust be set up that would allow you to receive payments to take care of necessities for yourself....like living expenses, care for minor children? I would not want an ex to get a dime.  I would want my kids to be taken care of, but not spoiled.

I have read up on trust law and it doesn't state when an income stream can be provided to the person setting up the trust or to the beneficiary of the trust.

I guess my interest in this comes from the things that I have read. I would almost like to write a screenplay...a hardluck/comedic story where the good guy wins in the end.... Kind of like an Adam Sandler movie....

Here is something for you to go and read about the types of trusts available and the best states for the trust to be held in. I did some homework on the matter and this was the best information I could find! And I do plan on putting it to use when I win the MM or PB!

just sue the spouse in civil court for all kind of civil claims and choke 'em in civil proceedings...while you've hidden the funds in a corporate trust somewhere.....and better yet...lie in court cause they all do....

Something like this would probably come down to what a lot of other cases do, simply, who got the better lawyer.

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any.

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

I'm not sure that if you've already filed for divorce and are living separately that your spouse could claim any of your winnings.

If the ticket was purchased while still living together etc. that would be a different story.

well i would rush the divorce  make it easy and simple for her and then claim the prize..your not a winner until you turn the ticket in

You're a winner the instant they draw the numbers that are on your ticket, and the law is absolutely crystal clear about that. Do you think that if you hadn't cashed your paychecks for the last year you could claim you had no income that had to be shared? When you get divorced part of the process is for each party to provide the other with information about their financial assets.  As the case cited by the original poster demonstrates, if you try to conceal your assets you risk having the judge divide those assets in a manner that will make you very unhappy. If you don't like losing half of a lottery prize in a divorce, how would you feel about losing it all?

Q: What would you do in a situation like this?

A: From the moment the papers were served until the matter was settled, I'd stop playing.

It seems to be a novel concept.
