Cool to check out other states scratchers. Makes me wanna travel! Above is my biggest winner to date. Sorry bout the bad quality of the pic. Cool story behind this ticket- Massachusetts was running a recycling program at the time (2006). For every bundle of 25 losing tickets you turned in, they would give you one $1 ticket. Since there are 300 tickets in a book, my girlfriend and I along with my Mom and her husband collected 300 "bundles" and went off to the State Fair in October of that year to collect our book of tix. Well, my Mom worked at a convienience store at the time and was saving discarded tickets to help the cause, but what I did not realize was that she was also saving some winning tickets that she had cashed in. So..... when we went to turn in the tix, the lottery official dude flipped through a few bundles and noticed a few "winning" tix, and he called us on it! I was mortified that my Mom had done that! Fortunately (very fortunatly), the guy gave us two options- Go through every bundle and pull out the winners, or except 200 tickets instead of a whole book. We chose option two and headed home. Sitting at the kitchen table we each took 50 tickets and started scratching away. I hit for $20 on one and there were lotsa smaller winners when all of a sudden my Moms husband stood up, holding a ticket out in front of him in disbelief! We were like what? What is it? He handed me the ticket first and the celebration began. $5000! That was the top prize in that game and one of only 200 such prizes printed, out of over 12 Million printed! Talk about a needle in a haystack find! And to think, we got it for free and almost did not get it at all. Crazy! We cashed it a few days later and the lottery only took out the state tax 5% so we split $4750 with my mom and her husband, took our half and went on a Carribean Cruise! If we had won $5001, they would have taken state and federal taxes out but "up to" $5000 they just take state taxes (initially)
Anyhoo, thats the story behind that winner. Almost all the bigs ones have a good story behind them so when you post a good one, give some details about how it came to fruitation!
