I noticed the Pick 3 day draw result on the lottery web site looked funny, with a black circle beside the result. I looked into it and found it was actually a white ball. Texas has a promotion for the rest of the month in which a white ball or green ball is drawn, and when the green ball is drawn, Pick 3 payouts (not including the Sum It Up feature) are increased by approximately 20%. The prize chart shown has some interesting math. The exact order prizes increase by 20% minus a dollar for every $250, but any order or exact/any increase by the full 20%. I'm not sure what the logic is.
The Pick 3 page of the site contains four information links. The promotion detail sheet explains that the green ball is guaranteed to be drawn at least once for every 6 draws. A quote:
At the start of this promotion, five (5) white balls
and one (1) green ball will be placed in a drawing
machine and one ball will be randomly selected
after each Pick 3 day & night drawing.
• If the green ball is selected, winning players will
have approximately 20 percent added to their
regular Pick 3 prize amount.
• Every time a white ball is selected, the white ball is
removed from the drawing machine. This increases
the chances of the green ball being selected in the
next drawing.
• Once the green ball is selected, all five white balls
and one green ball are loaded back into the drawing
machine for the next drawing.
