$500 winner - Georgia Lottery BLACKPrev TopicNext Topic

We had a $500 winner at a BP station in Marietta yesterday. That is an excellent win on a $10 ticket, especially the day after it came out. I purchased them all around my part of town, over 20 of them, and I had 8 winners. I did loose a good deal of money, but that was mainly due to the fact that I was testing the waters, and trying to find out what they were made of. I made mistakes and even bought a few tickets after hitting on some, just to see if I came across any back to back winners. I got 3 that won $10 (free tickets), 2 that won $15, and 3 that won $20. If it wasn't for a $100 Extreme Green winner, I would have had a very bad day.
My overall impression so far is that it plays a lot like Jingle Jumbo Bucks, but there might not be as frequent winners. If you are looking for smaller prizes or $100, then I would stick to Jingle Jumbo Bucks. If on the other hand you don't mind the idea of either purchasing 1 ticket and walking away, or you don't mind spending like crazy in the hopes of a winner, or a ton to win $500, then this is the game for you. Don't expect as frequent or as large wins as with Jingle Jumbo Bucks. In order for them to offer an instant $500 winner, they seem like they are really cutting back on the rank and file winners. I did hear mention of a single $50 winner besides the $500 winner, but that is it.
I took 4 sequential tickets to hit a free tickets in one book, and then bought another out of it, and it naturally lost. It took 3 sequential tickets to win $20 in another book in the same store. I purchased 001 which lost, 003 and 004 which lost, 005 won $15 and 006 won $15. 007 lost, just like I thought it would. I have no idea what 000 and 002 did. My wins were split between even and odd numbers and no particular part of the book stood out as having a higher concentration of winners. So far it seems to me that this game is turning out to be very random and unpredictable.
I would probably consider this one of those games where you just buy one ticket and hope for the best. Chasing losers is going to cost you big time unless you are lucky enough to hit $500. That is just the opinion of a player who has spent a good bit on Jingle Jumbo Bucks, and this game seems related, but with worse overall odds. I would have thought that they would have started with smaller book numbers, seeing as how the game is brand new, but I found book numbers from the high 138000 range to the 192000 range. I guess they really must mix them up, or start on a number greater than 100000. Does anyone know what the first pack number that is usually assigned to the first book of tickets in the production run?
Please share your thoughts and experiences. Do you think that stores will end up with multiple $500 winning packs? I know the distribution is supposed to be random, but I wonder if there is a way that they try and keep them spread out. If anyone has the odds for winning each prize amount, or how many top prizes are out there, I we would all love to see it.

Wow, you are absolutely obsessed. Gotta give you credit for the effort and diligence you put into your scratch research. After reading many of your posts I have decided that I will never buy a ticket anywhere in your state if I ever so happen to find myself there.
Massachusetts pays the most back to players than any other state and has one of the most successful lotteries in the country. I see $500 dollar winners all the time, more than twice a week and that is in the stores I play in. I have won $500 countless times, $1000 several times and $5000 once. Still looking for the big one though!
Good luck and keep at it!

I had a lot of questions when I first started, and I still do. A number of members here on LP have been very helpful, but I have also learned a lot on my own. I like to share much of my experiences here. I hope that I haven't bored too many people to death. Hopefully some of the mistakes that I have made others will avoid, while possibly helping some make some money.
It is great to see as many wins as you have, and I hope to be as successful as you, and the sooner, the better. I have won $100 or more 5 times this month, but have yet to hit $500, which is the new benchmark that I am looking for. How long have you been playing, and how much do you spend on average every week? Those are really impressive wins. I have only been playing for about 3.5 months now, and the most I have won is $150. What is your secret? Do you have a certain method to determine likely winners, or have you just been really lucky? Do you work at a retailer that sells lottery tickets?

OK, first of all I have been playing for many years and like most gamblers, I like to tell people what I have won, never really revealing how much I have lost. That being said, I typically play $50-$80 per week, most on instant games but some daily and JP games. Some weeks that $$ is gone instantly, some weeks it keeps itself going for days and days, sometimes I get it right and profit. I always believe I am going to win but I never expect to.
Learn to believe and not to expect and you will be better off. It seems that you are way over-analyzing things when it comes to instant tickets. You can try and try but you will never likely find a "pattern" or figure out where the lottery put the big winners. You must realize that it is absolutely random.
That being said, there are many things you can do (and some that you are likely already doing) to increase your odds of finding a good, if not life-changing, ticket. These are some of my theories and they do occasionally work.
First and most importantly, keep your eyes open and be aware of your surroundings. Never walk into a store without a glance into the waste receptacle, it tells a story. The story usually is- someone tossed (this many) losing tickets of (this type). Seems they have weeded out all the bad ones for me! Assuming (believing) that they did not walk out with the big winner, I always buy some of that ticket. Sometimes, even if it is just one ticket on the ground on the way into the store, I will use that as a catalyst. Also, practice your humility and grab the ones in the trash. I have found winners, up to $100, more than once!
My other "ace in the hole", and I think this would work for you since you play a lot, is to find a quiet, out of the way store that does not do huge lottery sales. Next, find the least popular and somewhat older instant ticket they sell or perhaps one that is in the corner of the display case. Buy a few of those tickets. The next day, go back and see how many, if any, tickets have been sold since your purchase. Use your budgeted lottery money to attack that book of tickets, bit by bit until it reveals a winner that you believe will not be topped. I have done this many times and twice have scored $1000 (on $2 tickets!). The older, less popular tickets still have winners. Your chace of hitting the last big prize is equal to the chance of hitting the first one. If it is there, it is there.
Some other theories- I like to buy from "fat and skinny" books as it seems that many winners are at the beginning or ends of books. No science, just my belief. I have seen $50,000 winner on ticket 000 and I have personally won $500 on ticket 299 more than once. Also, I have seen many manytimes a big winner follow a smaller one. I once hit for $40 and the next ticket was a $500 winner. I know someone who hit for $100 and the next ticket hit for $10,000.
So if you play smart and keep your awareness you will increase your odds. There is no conspiracy by the lottery and they are not ripping anyone off. Just like the casinos, they are set up to make money. Hopefully if your state is a good one, you will have less potholes in the roads or whatever they say they are doing with our lost cash...
Hope this helps a bit.
Good luck!

Yes, that was excellent. I do some of that to an extent. I do have better luck in the slower stores where I can actually count the tickets in each book. If I hit on a winner, I try and wait for 3 tickets to be sold before I buy another, and then I will often buy them until I have another winner. I dig through the trash a bit, but I have yet to find a winner so far, although I have entered many a second chance game with those tickets. I do also gather intel on tickets that way. Most people will see a bunch of losers as a bad sign, but like you I realize that if they didn't buy that big winner, it may be up soon.
I have been experimenting more and more with buying another ticket after a winner, but most of the times it loses, we all know that. Most of the time that there is another winner back to back, it is usually the same amount. I have had tickets go on fairly long losing streaks followed by small winners back to back, then it will lose on another couple of tickets, then bam, there is the bigger ($75, $100, 150) winners. I have also seen the tickets keep on going with no big winner.
My biggest winner so far has been $150, and I so happened to buy two of that same ticket out of a machine at once. If I had done as I normally do, I would have purchased one ticket at a time, and would have quit playing after that first $10 winner, and I would have missed out on the much larger prize. I still wonder to this day if there might have been an even bigger ticket in that pack, but I doubt it.
I know that there has got to be some reason that only 2 of the 5 $5,000,000 top prizes have been claimed for a game that has been out since March of last year. At least that is the earliest reference that I can find. My guess? Either A) These tickets have not been released yet in order to keep sales strong or B) They are tucked away on the shelves of a slow retailer. The more I play and the more I pour over my records, the more I am convinced that the lottery is somewhat random, but I still think there are patterns.
I must say that I have won a good share of my biggest winners near the beginning or end of each roll. I think they have to put a fair number of winners near each end of the roll to entice people to buy the last few tickets. Even though we know that most of them lose, we can all remember that one winner, and that is what they count on. I must say that I have won more on 013 or 014($20 tickets) or 028 or 029($10 tickets) than I have on 000 or 001.
I once hit for $40 and the next ticket was a $500 winner.
I hit for $40 on Maximum Green on ticket 012 out of 014. I was so torn as to whether or not I should have bought the last 2, but I decided not to. I have been told by 2 different retailers now that GLC only guarantees $180 worth of winners per $300 roll, not to say that there can't be more, but the likelihood goes down I think. If there were two $40 winners and one $100 winner in a roll, then they could have the other 12 as losers! It would imagine that it might go something like this: 000 $40, 001-007 losers, 008 $100, 009-013 losers and 014 $40. I have never bought an entire roll yet, but I fully intend to some day. Have you ever found big winners at BOTH ends of a roll, or have you bought an entire roll?
I bought the first ticket from a roll that started on 14, and I won $100. I never bought another ticket from that roll, assuming that it was dead. I noticed that the pack next to it was on ticket 13, so I decided to buy ticket 014 from the other roll, and I bet that the other roll had a big winner too, because both of them sat for a while, and at least 1 might still have some tickets left in it. Have you observed a precursor to a winner, anything leading up that points to one? Have you discovered any tell-tell signs that the big win is imminent?
As for this game, Georgia Lottery Black, I do not know what to make of it. Either I am playing it wrong, or I have just had much worse luck than I would expect. I am winning 1 out of every 2.55 times that I play, which is better than the stated odds of 1 in 3.27, but I am still behind in this game by $125. At one retailer I have won 2 out of 3 times that I have played, but I still have managed to lose money! How is this possible, inquiring minds want to know. Simple, buy 3 tickets at $10 each, thus spending $30, and have 2 free tickets worth $20. Now you have just lost $10.
Speaking of $20, that is still the highest payout that I have won. Either everyone else has figured this game out and is getting all of the big winners, or there is a real problem. It has unheard of odds for winning $500, 1 in 498. That is better than all of our $20 tickets, at half the cost! For this possibility we are otherwise paying a steep price. One $500 winner will likely change my tune, however. It will be a happy tune thereafter.

I decided to compare the top 2 $20 tickets between Massachusetts and Georgia. With the exception of the slightly better odds on the $1,000,000 prize, and the fact that the game has an $8,000,000 top prize verses our $5,000,000 top prize, I do not see any advantages to the Massachusetts tickets vs. the Georgia tickets. Here are the odds side by side. As a special note, I only included the very best odds for the Massachusetts tickets, as I only have one set of odds for Georgia tickets. There are some Massachusetts prize choices with notably worse odds, but I wanted them to have the very best possible representation. I have shown how many times better X odds are in Georgia. Red = best odds. I will even include a GA $10 ticket. It beats the Massachusetts ticket on all prizes from $20 to $10,000, with the exception of $25. Am I missing something here? Surely something must be wrong. Now I am even more confused than ever.

Perhaps I should reconsider my proposed ban on Ga tix. Your instant tix odds comparrison is very cool. I am not positive about it all and will take a peek at the Ga site when I get a few minutes. My prerception about Ma paying back more to players is born from something I read at one point within the last few years and it may be in overall payouts including all lottery games. It would be fun to figure it out though.
I have never purchased a full roll of tix here as there are 300 tickets per book for $1, $2, and $5 tickets, The $10 and $20 are sold in books of 100. Good marketing in your state as it would be tempting to buy "in bulk" if the books were smaller.
Again, I have seen no pre-cursor that will lead up to a big winner.
I am not priveledged to post pics here or I would put up some of my better "hits".

I don't know why you can't post pics. If you want you can PM me with them and I can post them for you. I think I saw your video, you dirty rat. Is this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyflRVlT4l8 the correct video?
Our rolls of tickets are all $300, so our numbers repeat more often, especially on the more expensive tickets. If I were to spend $300 on a roll, I know I would get at least $180 back, but unless there was a $500 winner in there or at least 2 $100 winners, I would probably lose money, but I could see if any patterns emerged. This would be especially valuable information if one were to buy 2 or more packs of the same ticket. It is my understanding that the state sells packs for sale that start at the largest number and count down, while others start at 000 and go up.
I am in agreement with you about the beginning and end of the roll. Although I have no proof of this, and I realize that it is not always like this, I have seen it many times where they put the winner on the opposite end of the book from where it starts, but I also think it depends on the game. That forces people to buy the whole book to get at the good ones. You can never be sure of that, because I have won on the first or second ticket many times.
One good thing about buying a whole roll is that it takes away one very important variable: You can be certain that even if the owner of the store or an employee has figured out a pattern of winners, they cannot buy that one perfect ticket, and the same goes with customers. I think the reason that I have lost so much money in certain high volume stores is that either clerks watch for long losing streaks and buy up the winner, or there are those certain people that will keep on scratching until they hit on something, no matter what. I have been guilty of this myself, but I have quit playing that way.
In such a scenario, it usually means that the next person is going to have to buy roughly 4 tickets to get to a winner, so if I had walked in just after someone else had done this, then that means that I had to do the same thing to force a winner, and that has not paid off on this game, not even close. That is why I have come to the conclusion that I must quit shopping at this certain retailer. I believe that either of the above scenarios keeps playing out, and I am ending up on the losing end.
I have literally wasted hundreds at that store. The most I have made on any ticket was $30, and that was on a day that I had spent almost $200. I used to consider that my lucky store, but that was when I first started playing. Looking back, most of my winners there were small winners. That might give people the false impression that that was a good store, just because they had some winners. Perhaps if the employees are playing, they just suck up the big winners and leave some small ones for the customers.
My new strategy is to drive around town and just buy one of each ticket, and vary the stores where I purchase tickets.. That keeps me from chasing losers, and has kept me from losing even more money. If I had followed that one simple rule, I am positive that I would not have wasted $75 at two stores to get three winners. If I had just bought one ticket from each roll, I would have only wasted $30, but I am glad that I did what I did, so I could learn quickly at this game. I also made the mistake of buying the next ticket after a winner several times. I know that can pay off, but it usually has not for me in most cases. I have bought 30 Georgia Lottery Black tickets, that is $300 worth, or a whole rolls worth of tickets, and I am still at -$125 for this game. I need to find that $500 winner, or better yet that million dollar winner.
