Did the Scotch tape give it away?
A Houston man is accused of altering a lottery ticket last year to claim the cash prize, the Harris County District Attorney's Office said.
Allen Hudaifa, 57, was charged on Friday with claiming a lottery prize by fraud — a second-degree felony, officials said.
In February 2010, Hudaifa tried to redeem a scratch-off lottery ticket that would have netted him $1,000 a week for 20 years.
But it was clear the alleged winning ticket had been tampered with, officials said.
"Some of the numbers were changed around. Two of them were secured with Scotch tape," said George Flynn, a spokesman for the district attorney's office.
Hudaifa denied any wrongdoing during interviews with investigators, officials said. He could not be reached for comment Friday night.
Officials with the Texas Lottery Commission referred questions about the case to the district attorney's office.
Thanks to joshuacloak for the tip.
The stupidity of people never ceases to amaze me.

Hudaifa denied any wrongdoing during interviews with investigators....
Thieves generally feel they are entitled to steal, besides they were going to give that money to someone.
Stupid Is As Stupid Does.
There Is Absolutely No Cure Whatsoever For Stupidity.
WOW
Wouldn't you at least make it like a smaller prize like 500 so that you wouldn't be claiming a NON EXISTANT TOP PRIZE.
Yeah that's totally non chalant. That's like trying to change your Powerball ticket's barcode to make it act like it had the winning numbers when nobody even won a jackpot....
It is said that wisdom comes with age.
Obviously he never made it through the common sense line.
Well, some people never learn, absolutely no common sense. He must have thought he was the first person to attempt to deceive the lottery commission: he was wrong.
AMAZING!!!
wow.....what a dumbazz...Tried the ole scotch tape trick ha haaaa
I read a story in a book about dumb criminals about a woman who did the same thing. She discovered she had just missed $20, so she altered her ticket to win the $20 prize, completely unaware that her ticket was worth $5,000.
ROTFLMAO , Dumb lottery criminals.
A second degree felony charge is not good Allen!
You better hope your lawyer can plea bargain that down to a misdemeanor.
Or else, you are in big trouble. Good luck to you! They may make an example of you to others?
What a marrooooon? People are so <snip> dumb, I am ashamed to be a member of the same species.
i can only image his bac and or his desperation.
its really sad if you think about it.
Scotch tape??? How stupid........ He should know that duct tape is much better.

Being in TX, he should have known that.
FOOL, "what was he thinking?
Ooh SHINY!
A moron is born every minute
"Some of the numbers were changed around. Two of them were secured with Scotch tape,"
Wow...he should also get charged for stupidity...life sentence...because THAT one takes the cake!
CMon he could have at least been a LITTLE more clever and photoshopped the ticket! LOL
Even if he succeeds at altering the numbers the code will still reveal the ticket is a loser. I guess people dont realize that
hehehehehe I agree, when in doubt, duct it.!
Congratulatons on your felony retard!!!
