Doesn't matter.  There is an enormous number of people playing their own numbers, and most people pick small numbers.  That's just the way it is.

Perhaps a more constructive way to address the question is to determine (with the cooperation of MM (good luck with that)) just how many of the 175,711,536 possible combinations go UNCOVERED during record setting drawings.

It only takes ONE to cause a rollover.

I'm with Todd on this one. I think that it is a rollover, but you never know because quick picks will frequently choose higher numbers. I guess we will all know soon enough. I hope it does roll though....We need to have a record jackpot plus by the time Tuesday comes the jackpot will probally be raised to about 450 million.

Have you asked them?  Why not give it a shot?  In the past the lotteries have released that kind of info.

Have You ?

I would not know where to begin.

All I know is the drawing happens in Atlanta...some times Time Square.

The MM web site is (or was) maintained by the VA Lottery.

I don't know of a "MUSL" equivalent to MM or who to contact.

Do you ?

I think players would be far less inclined to quick pick if it were determined that:

(1) A substantial number of combinations go UNCOVERED.

and...

(2) A substantial number of cominations played were quick picks.

We can reasonably believe that quick picks are random but what about

the pleasure lotteries enjoy from all the attention that comes from rollovers ?

It suggests to me that quicks picks MAY be BIASED to repeat.

The Montana Lottery web site, which I've found reports jackpot results well before any other site, currently shows a jackpot of \$418,000,000.

I see that HOWEVER, IL still indicates \$312m

I have found IL to be most accurate and CURRENT with their information.

It won't look too good for MT if there is a winner...particularly from MONTANA !!!

in a game be it a lottery game or at a casino, the amount of the jackpot does not influence the next random event. all it does is it entices more people to play.

the more people playing also could mean that multiple winners split pot so in the end it could end up like one person winning at the \$50 mill level..

all the hype is created by the lotteries for the purposes of sales...

How much is "too much" and how much is "enough" seems to be a relative concept. Normally humans have tendency of being greedy, tendency of living in wants rather than needs, and tendency of deciding wants/needs by how much others have rather than how much they truly need/want. As a result most of the people never reach a stage of material satisfaction, contentment and happiness even if they have enough to live a good decent life.

Having a home that you like and having enough wealth/bank balance to be able to feed yourself well for the rest of your life without having to work is something one can be happy and content with. Private jet, nice cars, yachts, luxury homes, vacationing aborad etc etc would fall in "wants" categories and it would then depend on an individual as to how lengthy/short he or she can make this "wants" category and manage to be happy, content and peaceful with his/her life

I seriously doubt they reported a rollover that didn't occur.

I'm pretty sure the Jackpot's now at over 400 million!

I do wonder about that.  I know they don't immediately report a rollover.  I see the jackpot at \$0 for a while after the draw.  But I wonder how they report a jackpot so long before anyone else (usually at least a half hour).  I do want to see confirmation from other states, or megamillions.com or powerball.com, or from USA Mega, before I believe it.

This is what I hate about Mega Millions. Results are pending a lot longer than Powerball. The next Powerball jackpot would have been shown already.

Gonna win.

Todd, could I ask you, what source does USA Mega use?  It's pretty quick, and I suspect you're not the type to publish unsubstantiated rumors.  I don't have complete faith in what I see on the Montana site, but when I see it on USA Mega I believe it.  I understand if it's proprietatry information, but I thought I'd ask.

And I want to ask this, too, does anyone know why Mega Millions takes so much longer than Powerball?  They have (almost) all the same states checking the results.

Powerball.com and USA Mega report \$12,000,000.
