I know that I've worn out everyone here with posts about certain numbers having 60 hits per year, so I wont go there in this post. Instead, I've seen something that I think is absolutely crazy and I'd like to share it.
We all know that The NY Lottery does it's best to make T5 drawings completely random. They switch out the lotto machines, change the sets of ping pong balls, rotate the tubes of balls that sit on top of the drum, and who knows what else they might do to ensure randomness.
Why then, has #17 been hot since 2010? Since January 1st, 2010, #17 has hit 374 times making it the top hitter for the last six years. (It's got 45 hits in 2016 and is in 3rd place) The next hottest hitter in the last six years is #6 with 356 hits, which IMHO doesn't come close to #17.
With the exception of 2011 when #17 had 43 hits, in each year since 2010, #17 had no less than 55 hits. 55 hits in one year is smokin' hot. (Remember, 60 hits in one years time usually makes a number the biggest hitter of the year) For two consecutive years, (2014 & 2015) #17 was the biggest hitter. (59 hits in 2014 and 61 in 2015)
I do realize that one number must have the most hits in any time period, just as one number must have the least hits in that same time period. (If you're wondering which number has had the least hits since 1/1/2010, it's #28 with 277.) It just that I think despite all of NY States efforts to ensure randomness, it's still lopsided in favor of #17. I would think that the second place number (#6) would have a number of hits closer to #17, except it doesn't. And over the entire life of the game, #6 is the biggest hitter and #17 is in third place. Crazy, huh? G5
