Hard to know if the winner is a Lotto News reader or not 'Player. But if they are, you can be sure that if they let Lotto News know they won using Dan Crispell's Pick 10 column, then there will be an article about the win in Lotto News. LN is pretty good at keeping a player anonymous too. A couple of years ago, I was mentioned (very briefly) in LN for providing them with some info about Take5, but my identity was never revealed.
Here's something interesting that happened to a co-worker a few days ago. It was lunchtime at work, and I was sitting at my desk eating a sandwich. Along comes "Tom" and he had a scratch-off ticket in his hand that he had just bought while out at lunch. He handed it to me and said "Does that say $4500 dollars?" So I took a look at it, and it sure was a $4500 winner. He told me he had "bought it 15 minutes ago" and that he "just kept looking at it over and over" because he "couldn't believe he had won $4500 bucks."
He said "I've played scratch-offs for years and never won much".... where've we heard that before????
Anyway, yesterday, I asked him if he had cashed the ticket. He said that he had, so I asked him how hard did they hit him for income taxes. He said "They didn't!" He said the lady "Just scanned it, and a computer printed out a check for $4,500." He told me he asked her why didn't they with hold money for income taxes and the lady said "You'll receive a form 1099 next year from The New State Lottery, and you'll have to report $4500 on your state and federal income tax forms."
If I know Tommy, (and I know him very well) he'll stash away $1500 bucks someplace so that he wont have to dig way down deep in his pocket for taxes at income tax time next year. Wish I was like that, but I aint. I'd blow it all. G5
