Something else to consider, I think America once made it illegal to own gold.

What if you opted for gold and that happened again?

A fence isn't exactly going to offer you fair value and if it's illegal to own it, then what?

Making things ill-eagleDead often drives up price and/or demand.

In neo-conned Amerika, bank robs you.

I would take the cash and buy land and gold.  Of course, if the polls indicate that a Republican will win the White House, then I would sell the gold.  The price will surely drop after the election.  Land may decrease in value but when push comes to shove, you will need a place to stand.  About 500 acres ought to be enough to stand on.

Good point gasmeterguy, and we all need to MAKE A STAND !

Even I see gold as preserver of purchase power, transporting it out of USA would be safety risk.

I would transfer the cash first to overseas bank and then to buy gold with 1/3 of the pot.

I want to choose bullion size or coin of my preference, plus store it where I want.

Having physical gold, holding it is the way to go. Alternative is bullionvault.

PS. Quite a few have chosen gold. Is gold going to peak now ;) buah hah. So many stores buying gold in every interstate road.
