I would rather buy 2 of SM for $1m-1:3.8m than 1 of PB for $2  1:5.1m.  I get 4 of Lotto for $2; and jp is now $10.5m in NY.  Consider, if both PB and MM are say $80m, which would you buy $10 of?

How much they could have won is generally an afterthought by players that normally don't use Powerplay or Megaplier. The player in Arizona who bought 6 $2 PB tickets could have won $2 million more betting the same amount ($12) using Powerplay. Anyone can justify why they didn't use Powerplay, but when the results were know, it still cost them $2 million.

"Consider, if both PB and MM are say $80m, which would you buy $10 of?"

10 MM tickets will give you a 25% chance of winning something which will probably be $2 or $3 dollars. The same $10 will give you a 15.7% of winning something in PB; probably $4. Since 10 chances of winning $80 million is better than 5 and the cash value of MM is higher, if given only one choice, I'd play MM.

I agree. Why half your chances of winning? PB 2nd prize odds are same as before 1:5.1m for $1m. All the hooting about lowering from 195m to 175m is bogus as no improvement over MM odds, but price is double. huh? logic here escapes me.  <p>

If Sweetmillion is cancelled, then I might play PB just for the chance of $1m, not for the jp.

I know it's only been 4 months since the Powerball change but I was just thinking.....if it doesn't turn around for them do you think they will ever concede and drop the starting jackpots and the roll the price back to $1?

What is there to turn around?  Every lottery in the United States is making more money from Powerball since the price hike.

both at 80M$?  then i buy 3pb tickets (6$) and 4mm tickets (4$) and that is where my 10$ goes.
